ROLE
The Woods Hole Group, Inc., a CLS Group company, is a leader in the provision of commercial oceanographic, coastal environmental, data telemetry, and fisheries vessel management services.
We are seeking an Oceanographic Technician, to prepare, maintain, test, commission, and operate real-time oceanographic monitoring systems. The primary role will focus on the company’s real-time ocean current surveying systems, as well as building and testing of our ocean drifters. The candidate will ideally have electronic and mechanical engineering skills. Some knowledge or experience with oceanographic sensors and satellite communications would be preferred.
The role will be based at our Richmond, Texas facility reporting to the regional program manager. As well as the above tasks, the individual will also be encouraged to support the company’s broader oceanographic and marine environmental measurement and monitoring services.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare, maintain, and operate real-time ocean current survey systems.
- Build and test ocean drifters and beacons.
- Undertake field operations associated with the installation and operation of oceanographic systems.
- Ensure that all project operations are undertaken in compliance with Woods Hole Group Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and quality management policies and promote and maintain a strong HSE culture.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES
- Education in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, oceanography or marine science.
- Experience with electronics, satellite communications and maritime, shipyard and offshore field operations would be beneficial.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including working with Microsoft Office applications as well as Adobe, web systems, etc.
- Experience working within a strongly HSE regulated operational industry is preferred.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Full current, unrestricted Texas driving license.
- Valid certification for offshore oil and gas travel via helicopter and vessel would be beneficial, but training will be provided.
- Good organizational skills to manage, prioritize and execute a broad range of tasks.
- Ability to follow instructions and willingness to learn.
- Ability to travel without restriction when required.
- Ability and willingness to work in the field away from home when required.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team in addition to working independently on key tasks.
- Highly self-motivated and self-directed.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
- The position is a full-time, salaried position (salary commensurate with experience).
- Applicant must be willing to adhere to the companies Drug and Alcohol testing program
- This position will be filled at our Richmond, Texas office.
