Concrete Saw Operator Training Program

Hi-Way Paving is a dynamic and growing mid-sized heavy civil construction company specializing in projects that involve large amounts of concrete paving. With a reputation for excellence and a commitment to safety and quality, we are seeking motivated and dedicated individuals for our in-house Concrete Saw Operator Training Program.


Candidates interested in this skilled position will have the opportunity to learn one-on-one from a seasoned expert. During this time of development, candidates will gain hands-on experience in green sawing, operating a walk-behind saw, equipment maintenance, finishing, and sealing techniques. Candidates who successfully complete this program will progress to full-time Concrete Saw Operators and will be given added responsibility, competitive pay, company-provided vehicle, and long-term advancement opportunities.

 

Skills and attributes necessary for individuals in this program include general construction labor experience, mechanical inclination, attention to detail, ability to prioritize, work independently, and meet physical demands. 


Individuals will continuously travel between projects in Charlotte & Raleigh-Durham (North Carolina), Nashville (Tennessee), and future locations to help execute slip-form concrete paving operations on highways and airfields.

 

Responsibilities

Complete hands-on training to gain knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Operate a concrete saw to make clean, accurate expansion/control joint cuts on finished concrete pavements.
  • Cut out damaged areas, drill holes for reinforcing rods, and position reinforcing rods to repair concrete, using appropriate tools.
  • Perform sawing tasks in a safe, controlled, and timely manner.
  • Conduct post-cut inspections; remedy mistakes or inaccuracies without impacting the integrity and quality of finished products/surfaces.
  • Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure the surface of concrete, and waterproof or restore surfaces.
  • Read plans, instructions, and specifications to execute work.
  • Use hand and power tools, as necessary, to complete tasks.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in clean and hazard-free condition.
  • Observe safe work practices and adhere to all safety protocols and instructions.
  • Display the Hi-Way Paving, core values, respect, integrity, and commitment.

 

Qualifications

  • Six months of construction-site labor experience, either within the Hi-Way Paving organization or with another company, required.
  • Heavy civil or highway construction experience, preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgment and ethical decisions. 
  • Regular, punctual, and consistent attendance. 
  • Ability to gain clearance in restricted/high-security zones. (Airport AOA, Military Bases, etc.), required.
  • Must be able to travel up to 100% of the time. 
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to be covered on the company insurance, required.
  • CDL A or B, hazmat, and tanker endorsement, preferred.
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission truck, required.
  • Physical capabilities required are climbing, lifting, carrying a minimum of 75 lbs., standing, sitting, walking, entering confined spaces, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, and performing repetitive actions.
