DAR Museum Curatorial Internship Summer 2024

Under the supervision of the Curator of Exhibitions, the intern will independently compile materials and produce content for the 2025 "Fighting for Freedom: Black Craftspeople and the Pursuit for Independence" exhibition interactives. Tasks may include:
- Researching maker biographies and objects
- Identifying historic tools from photos and writing interpretive text
- Creating a plan for exhibition design
- Writing interpretive text
The DAR Museum collection contains decorative arts objects that were made or used in America between the 1600s and early 1900s. The ideal intern would be one interested in pursuing a museum curatorial career in early American decorative arts, possibly specifically in exhibitions.
Requirements- Enrolled graduate student in a museum studies program or related field of study
- Knowledge or interest in museum interpretation, American history, collections management and/or museum studies in general.
- Ability to conduct research relating to historical objects using print and online resources.
- Basic computer skills and a general understanding of the purpose and uses of databases.
- Historic Interpretation Exhibition planning, design, and creation
- Interest in Material culture Working with word-processing software
30 hours per week for 8 weeks. Start date: May 28, end date: July 26
Compensation
$19.00 per hour, subject to federal, state, and local taxes.
