Welding Fabricator

The Welding Fabrication Technician is responsible for the entire fabrication process i.e., forming, drilling, bolting, fitting, and welding. The Technician is responsible for providing a quality fabricated product for the next production operation.

Reports to: Production Manager

Essential Functions:

Review of Fabrication Drawings, Specifications and the Bill of materials and parts to verify their fit, form, and function meets the fabrication requirements.

Fabrication furnace and cabinet enclosures which involves shearing and bending of metal for the manufacturing of the furnace and/or control cabinet; conduct process dimensional quality checks to ensure fabrication accuracy; complete appropriate welding (MIG/TIG) cleaning of parts to construct the furnace shell and/or the control cabinet enclosure.

Inspection and General departmental jobs duties which will include complete in-process Operator Quality Inspection, Transport of furnace to the next workstation.

Competencies and Attributes Needed:

• Experience welding, pipe fitting, forming, and shearing metal.
• Operate a forklift/ crane.
• Knowledge of materials used in metal fabrication.
• Ability to read and understand drawings.
• Ability to do simple geometry, fractions, and decimals, use a calculator and mathematical table.
• Use tape measure, caliper/micrometer; tri-square, and degree finder.
• Possess good mechanical abilities and aptitude.
• Read and check blueprints.
• Operate press brake; shearing; lathe, acetylene torch, welding equipment, table saw and drill press.

• Experience with basic welding principles.
• Basic math skills: convert fractions into decimals.
• Min of 5 years of MIG and TIG
• Performs GMAW, SMAW, and GTAW welding with at least one certification.
• Proficient with measuring tools; micrometers and calipers, etc.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand 8 to 10 hours a day; Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to the chest level and carry the object a minimum of 10 feet; Ability to climb ladders and bend over to pick up materials; Ability to wear a dust mask or breathing respirator while performing all job tasks as needed.
