Small Engine Mechanic Part Time or Full Time - Landscaping

Position description: The Small Engine Mechanic must be familiar with all aspects of company small engine equipment appropriate to the landscape industry to include: running an established preventative maintenance (PM) program, making repairs as needed, scheduling all items for PM, training crews on use and PM of small engine equipment, etc. A Small Engine Mechanic must interact with all company personnel and display a professional demeanor at all times.
Reports to: The Small Engine Mechanic reports directly to the GM & Maintenance Manager.
Flexible schedule. Work when you can, no set times.
Skill set and educational requirements: The Small Engine Mechanic must possess the following skill set and educational background:
Minimum of two or three years of experience as a general or Small Engine Mechanic.
Hold appropriate certifications for a Small Engine Mechanic’s position.
Possess a valid driver’s license
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
Proficient in both oral and written communications.
Proficient in inventory management/control of repair parts.
Able to create an atmosphere of cooperation and professionalism with all office and field personnel.
Able to represent the company in a courteous and professional manner.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts scheduled PM for all small engine equipment.
- Conducts repairs for all small engine equipment, as directed.
- Fuels company fleet as needed.
- Monitors fleet maintenance schedule and schedules oil changes, needed service, & tire replacements.
- Tracks all repairs for specific equipment with work orders for all costs: labor, materials, subcontracted costs, etc.
- Runs the company scheduled PM program for all small engine equipment as follows:
- Schedules maintenance & blade sharpening.
- Manufacturer’s recalls.
- Scheduled and spot inspections.
- Storing.
- “Never-out” inventory for parts that must be on hand at all times.
- Pre-expended bin inventory for consumable parts required for PM.
- Maintenance of manuals for all small engine equipment.
- Maintenance of safety manuals for all small engine equipment.
- - Inventory lists for all small engine equipment to cover such things as:
- - Fire extinguishers.
- - Safety manuals.
- - Accident reporting procedures and forms.
- - Fuel purchase credit cards.
- - Daily PM procedures for all drivers and operators.
- - Key maintenance.
- - Security for all small engine equipment.
- - First aid kits.
- - Spare tire(s), jacks, tow straps, etc.
- Conduct repairs of small engine equipment to include:
- - Ordering most cost-effective parts for repairs.
- - Filling out and processing all work orders and required paperwork.
- - Tracking all repair labor and parts to each truck, vehicle, or piece of equipment..
- - Doing repairs, inspecting/testing the same, and filling out appropriate paperwork.
- Ensures all workers’ compensation insurance claims are reported immediately.
- Ensures all accidents are reported immediately.
- Oversees training program for field crews’ daily PM requirements for all small engine equipment.
- Ensures that company employee manual is adhered to.
- Ensures that all safety procedures are followed.
- Thoroughly understands and complies with company policies, procedures, and SOPs.
Salary, bonus, and/or commissions: Commensurate with experience ($17.00 to $25.00 an hour).
Appraisal criteria: The primary appraisal criteria for the Small Engine Mechanic is to effectively supervise the equipment department’s small engine equipment PM program, conducting all small engine equipment repairs, while maintaining a safe, professional, and efficient operation.
