Job Description

Job Title: Special Education Teacher and 504 Plan Coordinator

Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver (ACAND)-Brighton, CO

Work Hours/Days: School and staff work days during the school year

Desired Start Date: Early August 2024

Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000

*Please note, you will need to attend training in Hillsdale, MI for up to 10 days in June. Travel to the conference, lodging and food will be covered by ACACS and Hillsdale.

We are looking for a Special Education Teacher who can mentor students and teachers, manage IEPs and 504s, and provide general support for our Student Services department. Located in Brighton, CO, just 3 miles from I-25, Ascent Classical of Northern Denver (ACAND) is a growing school of over 200 students. For the 24-25 school year, it offers grades K-8, with plans to expand to K-12 by adding one grade per year.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Special Education
  • Current license in Special Education in Colorado
  • A passion for teaching and inspiring young people is a must
  • Commitment to the policies, mission, and vision of Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools of Colorado
  • Commitment to high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government
  • Knowledge of classical education (or the willingness and desire to learn)
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to effectively articulate information and issues
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment, superior organization, and computer skills
  • Willingness to complete other related duties as requested
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • After an offer is accepted, a satisfactory background check as required by state law and Colorado Department of Education

Essential Functions:

  • Knowledge of behavior support plans, crisis intervention techniques, and proactive/preventative techniques including physical management and positive reinforcement
  • Participate with family and/or guardians and team in the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Participate with parents and/or guardians and team in the development of 504 accommodation plans
  • Facilitate and monitor activities in keeping with IEP goals for designated caseload
  • Develop/Implement/Record appropriate curriculum and corresponding lesson plans for students with significant cognitive and behavioral needs
  • Facilitate and/or attend weekly classroom or staff development meetings
  • Supervise paraprofessionals' work, including daily planning, education of students' needs and progress

Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc. (ACACS) is a network of public charter schools in Colorado comprised of four campuses. The governing Board of Directors at ACACS has contracted with Minga Education Group (MEG) to provide employment services for all staff at ACACS. Through this partnership, MEG provides employment services, a personnel system for human resources, benefits, payroll services, and access to a 401(k) plan.
