Salary: $75,000/year - $95,000/year

Purpose: This position will design for wet and/or dry utilities including, but not limited to water, sanitary sewer, storm drain, gas, and electric facilities. The work will involve design, utilizing AutoCAD/Civil 3D, research, and calculations. Role also requires planning, scheduling, and managing all technical tasks of their assigned project to assure accuracy, proper resources, and quality from start to finish. We have a current opening for an Engineer II/Assistant Engineer for our Concord, CA Team!


Environment: West Valley Construction Company specializes in underground utilities. West Valley's corporate office is located in Campbell, CA with operations facilities located in Campbell, Concord, Fresno, Redwood City, Sacramento, Salinas, Stockton, Visalia, Chico, and Bakersfield. 


The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties. Is it not all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition, management, as appropriate may modify this job description. 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare construction drawings and supporting documents applying engineering standards and guidelines and using AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.
  • Use engineering judgement to perform duties; know when to ask questions, seek assistance, and perform independent research.
  • Work and interface with various entities, both governmental and private, to address and coordinate required documentation, permits, project background, and other required protocol for design and construction purposes.  
  • Oversee the services and activities of subconsultants including requests for proposals, manage subconsultant schedules, and quality of deliverables. 
  • Perform technical evaluations, including field assessments, and exploring the constructability and practicality of the design with various stakeholders to arrive at an optimum and realistic design. 
  • Prepare material inventory and design specifications. 
  • Prepare cost/pricing estimates. 
  • Contribute to effective customer relations by providing support as requested by managers, and by communicating with customers in an effective manner. 
  • Monitor compliance with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications. 
  • Manage personal time allotted to various tasks to meet obligations of projects including budget, quality, and schedule. 
  • Perform engineering calculations, documenting methodology, and checking work. 
  • Research and write specifications and reports relating to project assignments.


Position Requirements: 

  • Thorough understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Knowledge and ability to use basic office equipment and computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Web browsing tools.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be both creative and analytical.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Ability to prepare project documentation and correspondence, interact effectively with other team members, occasionally interface with clients, and deliver client, public, or internal team presentations on occasion.
  • Minimum typing speed at 40 WPM.


Education & Experience:

  • 2 to 5 years engineering work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Engineer-In-Training Certificate or California Professional Civil Engineers license.


Salary:

  • $75,000/yr - $95,000/yr
    • Non-Exempt with E.I.T
    • Exempt with P.E.
