Job Summary
The Electrical Estimator is responsible for examining and determining costs for electrical projects and preparing bids. He/she is responsible for determining potential profitability for commercial and residential electrical contracting jobs.
The Electrical Estimator has primary responsibility for evaluating the cost for electrical installations on contracted jobs, examining project plans, assessing material and labor cost, and calculating job profitability.
Key responsibilities & duties
• Identifying and building up cost estimates
• Analysing and clarifying the cost of wasted materials and possible delays in projects
• Provide change orders for contract projects
• Assist Project Manager to problem solve issues when arise
• Attend job meetings
• Create RFI for Project Manager and/or Foreman on all Commercial Projects
• Design build budget estimates
• Create material lists for estimates
• Review supplier rates to determine individual cost, and negotiate accordingly
• Other tasks and responsibilities as required to maintain efficient operations
Academic & trades qualifications
Completion of postsecondary electrician training program [or equivalent experience]
Bachelor’s Degree in Related Field [Construction Science, Engineering…]
Work experience & skills
5+ years as a Professional Electrical Estimator using Estimating & Take Off Software
Analyzing blueprints to determine wire lengths as well as suitable outlet placement
Knowledge on current Federal & OSHA Requirements
Knowledge of N.E.C. and Local Codes
Experience with drawings and specifications
Familiar with electrical materials and codes
