POSITION SUMMARY

The CCHS Addiction Medicine Physician provides professional comprehensive medical services for patients struggling with addiction. The Addiction Medicine Physician will manage medication assisted treatment (MAT) for patients with opioid use disorder or alcohol use disorder. He or she will work closely with behavioral health consultant and case manager to provide holistic, Christ-centered care for affected patients. The Physician will also provide primary care within the scope of his/her residency training.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides patient care to patients with substance use disorders (SUD) as a part of a patient-centered medical home care team. Fosters and encourages an attitude of teamwork.

Manages medication assisted treatment (MAT) and other Addiction Medicine treatments in accordance with all federal and state regulations, including prescribing buprenorphine-naloxone and managing induction and maintenance phases of therapy.

  1. Works with Behavioral Health and Medical leadership to shape and grow the Addiction Medicine program at CCHS.

May see hospital inpatient consultations, if applicable.

Sees primary care patients within the scope of his/her residency training.

Provides education in Addiction Medicine to CCHS providers and staff, residents, students, and other trainee

2. Participates in organizational mission to provide distinctively Christian healthcare.

Collaborates with and/or supervises nurse practitioners or physician assistants, as appropriate, in providing patient care for substance use disorders; may assist in the education training of medical students and residents.

Collaborates across departments including dental, behavioral health, case management, and spiritual health.

Attends staff and medical provider meetings and maintains a level of involvement with the health center committees, as needed, to ensure quality patient care.

3. Participates in continuing medical education, including Life Support Training, to maintain the skills necessary to perform physician duties and as required by applicable medical boards and the State.

Participates in peer assessment, performance evaluations/improvement data, and other activities to evaluate and advance quality improvement measures

Maintains own physical health required to perform physician duties; maintains current immunizations and up-to-date PPD.

Documents all patient encounters in a timely manner in hospital and/or clinic health record.

May perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Clinical Officer or Site Lead Physician.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Doctor of medicine or osteopathy degree from an accredited institution of medicine or osteopathy

Experience: Completion of residency program with Certification of Specialty Training; Addiction Medicine fellowship or minimum of 2 years experience providing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder.

Licenses or Certifications: Board Certification (or eligible) in area of specialty training and maintenance of certification; State licensure to practice medicine in the state of Tennessee; active DEA certification.




Approximate percentage of time incumbent spends in “on-the-job” travel, excluding commuting to regular work location: 15% to 20% travel to hospitals

Working Conditions

Involves exposure to patients of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds including patients with mental illness, infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, and body tissues.
