BASIC PURPOSE

This teacher aide serves as a Student Support Specialists. This position in this job family establishes, communicates, and creates a pedagogical environment for the student's success in their individual educational goals. Coordinates and conducts classes that help develop a successful transitional plan for the student.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS

Communications: Establishes and maintains effective educational relationship with students and teachers. Communicates high expectations for all students. Promotes a positive environment and promotes an exchanges ideas.

Participation: Participates in parent/teacher conferences and meets with parents to discuss the student's areas of strengths/weaknesses. Gathers student progress information for Unit Treatment Team meeting on Wednesday. Attends Wednesday UTT meeting during their rotation turn.

Transitional training: Organize, schedules and assist students with online OSHA training. Sets up new classes for students as groups complete the program. Ensures equipment for classes is prepared.

School office: Covers for school office duties in absence of admin assistant as needed. Assists Principal and Assistant Principal as needed in admin assistant's absence.

Academic Achievement: Administers pre-tests for academic achievement students. Grades tests accordingly and gathers data from tests to provide to teachers to assist these students with their areas of study. Maintains a constant tutoring schedule to assist students with one on one tutoring.

Substitute in Classrooms: Maintains classroom management in accordance with OYACS standards. Keeps students on their curriculum pace even in the absence of the teacher.
Assists the students with their specific content (all classes) without pausing the pace.

School Library: Catalogues books accordingly. Takes students to library for check in and out. Keeps library organized and up to date.

Tutoring: Assists students practice and deepen their understanding of new and existing knowledge. Assist students in every class that OYACS provides students.

LEVEL DESCRIPTOR

This job family consists of one level employees consists of only one level and employees are responsible for performing all functions involving assisting teachers and students in daily classroom curriculum. In this role, they will provide instruction to students in absence of the teacher and through tutoring. They will also provide assistance to students in transitional skills in OSHA and individual transition plans.

  • Excellent English reading and writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of educational technology and teaching methods.
  • Experienced in planning educational group activities.
  • Effective classroom management.
  • Familiarity with special education support.


EDUCATION REQUIRED

High School Diploma, some college hour preferred.

Special Requirements

Applicants must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position, possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license at time of appointment and be willing to be on-call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The Office of Juvenile Affairs has determined that some positions in this job family are safety sensitive as defined by63 O.S. § 427.8.

Must be able to pass background check and drug screening.

A trial period of 12 months will be required.
