Position Summary:
The Product Development Chemist will contribute to the completion of Research & Development projects with a focus on formulation, manufacturing, testing, and quality. The Product Development Chemist will report directly to Lab management. This is a full-time position with opportunities for advancement in a growing company.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for formulation and development of product samples and experimental laboratory batches as driven by customer or in-house programs.
- Operate and establish batch making procedures and define product specifications for transfer to scale up pilot line testing.
- Generates new ideas for product concepts and assesses them for implementation.
- Research and explore unique or trending ingredients and technologies within the food and beverage, cosmetic, and dietary supplement markets.
- Supports the project driven activities within the R&D laboratory in accordance with specifications, standard operating procedures, approved test methods and/or protocols, and safety policies.
- Coordinate with supervisors for developing testing procedures or SOPs where none exist.
- Document and record all laboratory activities according to GLP.
- Support in general laboratory tasks such as chemical inventory management, consumables supply, disposition of expired product or samples, and overall organization as necessary.
- Ensures a safe work environment; work areas and laboratory equipment are neat, clean, and clear always.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- 5+ years in a chemical, cosmetic, food, or pharmaceutical laboratory setting.
- Proven experience in formulation chemistry and/or product development.
- Experience with blending, batch making, mixing or compounding.
- Prior work with coatings, films, and / or polymers a plus.
- Food science, flavorist, or fragrance exposure are also a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related sciences required.
Additional Skill Sets:
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Good time management skills to meet deadlines and be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety data sheets, operating and maintenance instructions, and product spec sheets.
- Ability to write routine reports and record data in laboratory notebook.
- Flexible and willing to work as a team or work independently with little oversight.
- Walk and stand for extended periods of time. Lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds may be required.
Compensation:
- Salary: $40-60k per year
- Rate is commensurate on experience and education.
