SKILLED NURSING FACILITY Competitive PayBenefits for the Entire FamilyScheduling AppRecognition and Rewards ProgramVacation, Holiday, and Sick Pay401k Plan AvailableEmployee DiscountsJob Summary The Director of Staff Competency is responsible for assessing the training needs of staff and to develop, implement, evaluate, and document staff development programs including general orientation, job specific orientation, in-service training, and continuing education programs for throughout the facility in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times. The Director of Staff Competency may be required to conduct a Nurse Aide Certification Program in the facility if approved to conduct these courses by the state. The Director of Staff Competency is delegated the authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out assigned duties. Functions within the scope of the state’s Nurse Practice Act for R.N. Licensure. Uses and maintains records of education through the Relias Learning Management System (LMS). Residents Rights Knows and respects patients’ rights. Ensures protected health information is kept confidential. Reports complaints made by residents/patients to supervisor. Reports all allegations of patient abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of patient property. Provides ongoing training regarding resident rights to staff, vendors, volunteers, and students. Safety and Sanitation Follows established safety policies and procedures. Follows established infection control policies. Observes safety needs of patients as indicated in care plans. Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies when indicated and properly trained to use. Demonstrates job-specific knowledge of fire and disaster preparedness during drills or actual situations. Trains staff, vendors, volunteers, and student in safety and sanitation related topics such as infection control, PPE usage, bloodborne pathogens, safety procedures, and safety roles and responsibilities. Coordinates employee health as directed by the Director of Health Services and/or Executive Director. Staff Development Attends and participates in scheduled in-service training, educational classes, and meetings to maintain current certification and as managed by regulatory agencies and company policies. In coordination with HR, conducts staff training and orientation. Prepares staff training and implements. Oversees clinical training and competency program. Completes skill observations and competencies. Participates in nursing leadership development. Assists Plant Operations in training emergency preparedness and safety roles. Trains staff in proper infection control practices and PPE use. Completes all assigned Relias courses. Staff Competency Responsibilities Participates in general orientation process as directed by the HR designee. Meet with department heads on a regular basis, to identify training needs and plan intervention to address areas of concern. Develops implements and maintains a written annual staff development plan, which ensures a coordinated program for staff education for nursing personnel. Plans and coordinates health fairs in conjunction with HR. Coordinates job specific orientation to familiarize and train new nursing department hires to the expectations of the job. Acts as preceptor, coach, and resource person to assist nursing department employees to successfully complete the job specific orientation. Assists in planning, coordinating, and conducting required in-service programs and/or special training sessions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and/or organization requirements. Assigns courses in Learning Management System (Relias). Reviews reports from the Relias to ensure completion of assigned curriculum. Reports deficits to the Executive Director and Director of Health Services as well as applicable supervisors. Secures, develops, and maintains records, reports, instructional manuals, reference materials pertinent to in-service programs. Provides education records to HR. Records in Relias whenever possible. Maintains appropriate documentation of educational programming, each individual employee’s attendance at educational programs and competency validation as needed. Enters attendance in Relias as appropriate. Provides records to HR following trainings to keep up-to-date personnel files with employee educational information. Assists in planning, coordinating, and conducting required training to assure compliance with Quality Improvement program in conjunction with departments. Assists with demonstrations to acquaint staff with new equipment and review established equipment. Assists the Executive Director/designee in developing, conducting, and maintaining conditions of approval for Nurse Aide Certification programs Coordinates orientation of all agency personnel with HR designee to ensure completion. Supervisory/People Management Responsibilities During training provides supervision and oversight of employees to ensure skills are performed as outlined in nursing procedures. Reviews employee performance during skills observations; Enters observations into Relias. Provides 1:1 training and remediation to staff as needed. Ensures employees satisfactorily complete orientation and other assigned training sessions. Keeps employee information confidential. Administrative Responsibilities Coordinates work of department with work of other departments. Attends and participates in staff meetings, department head meetings, and other center meetings and sits on required committees. Assists in developing and updating departmental procedures. Follows organizational policies and procedures. Accepts nursing assignments as qualified. Maintains a productive working relationship with the medical profession and other health related facilities and organizations. Coordinates nursing student rotations with schools, universities, etc. Serves on various committees of the facility as required by existing regulations and as appointed by the Executive Director/designee. Follows the ongoing QAPI process steps, monitors trends, and implements performance improvement initiatives. Active participant in the QAPI committee. Provides staff completion reports to the Safety Committee as requested by the Safety Coordinator. Actively participates in the regulatory or certification survey process and correction of deficiencies as requested. Provides staff review of skills during survey process as needed. Speaks to surveyors calmly and clearly regarding staff competency and training. Performs all the duties on an RN including resident assessment, medication administration, implementation of treatments, care planning, reporting, and communication when assigned by the Director of Health Services. Performs any miscellaneous work assignments as may be required. Education/Qualifications Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in the state in which the facility is located; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university preferred. Current CPR (BLS) certification. Within six (6) months of hire, successful completion of IV training. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities. Must have strong organizational, analytical, and project planning skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills. Persons who have been found guilty of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or mistreatment or misappropriation of property by a court of law; or who has a finding in the State nurse aide registry concerning abuse, neglect, exploitation, mistreatment of residents or misappropriation of resident property, or has had a disciplinary action in effect taken against his/her professional license are not eligible for employment in this position. Experience Two (2) years’ experience with geriatrics or post-acute care. Two (2) years of teaching experience preferred; demonstrated ability and presentation experience in training of adults and group dynamics; one year of long-term care teaching experience and working knowledge of clinical nursing practices and the job functions of nursing home employees, preferred. Computer skills are required for this position. Must also have knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel. Physical Demands Primarily large in nature with exerting up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, accommodation, color vision. This position requires extensive use of office equipment including computers, phones, fax, scanner, etc. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
