Northwest AEA provides special education and school improvement services to 34 public school districts and 32 accredited, non-public schools. The agency serves 45,000 students and more than 5000 educators in a 10-county area of Northwest Iowa (Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, O'Brien, Plymouth, Cherokee, Woodbury, Ida, Monona, and Crawford).

Qualifications:

  • Associate of Arts degree in related area and/or a minimum two years of experience with at-risk youth.


Job Purpose:  The paraeducator technician will assist AEA certified staff in building the capacity of LEA staff with assessing and implementing high quality academic and/or behavioral interventions, including modeling in daily practice for continuous improvement.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Models professional and ethical behavior and maintains professional confidentiality.
  • Uses coaching strategies to support educators in schools to assist in the implementation of behavior plans and academic instructional strategies as directed by the best practice behavior coach.
  • Monitors and reports on the fidelity regarding the implementation of behavior intervention plans and academic interventions in LEA classrooms.
  • At the direction of certified staff, assists AEA and LEA staff in the collection of data needed for academic assessments, functional behavior assessments, behavioral intervention plans, and academic interventions.
  • Assists LEA educators by demonstrating strategies and modeling effective behavioral and academic intervention strategies.
  • Uses and models appropriate crisis management strategies for students in crisis situations and follows district procedures related to Iowa Chapter 103 (Seclusion and Restraint).
  • Assists certified AEA staff with material preparation, including those needed for academic and behavioral interventions.
  • Organizes resources and materials to support student success.
  • Develops and sustains trusting, productive relationships with teachers, administrators, para-educators, AEA staff, learners, families, and outside agencies.
  • Communicates with AEA and LEA staff, both orally and in writing, regarding designed interventions.
  • Assists in preparation of behavior related professional development training sessions.
  • Actively participates in AEA team meetings and training as appropriate.
  • Participates successfully in training offered to increase skill and proficiency related to the assignment.
  • Other duties as assigned
