Delta Western was formed in 1984 to provide fuel for ships, planes, and vehicles along the Western Alaska coastline and Yukon River with a fueling station in Dutch Harbor. It was welcomed into the Saltchuk family of companies in 2000, marking Saltchuk’s entry into petroleum distribution. Today, Delta Western is one of Alaska’s leading independent distributors of petroleum products and lubricants, with fuel terminals in Western and Southeast Alaska. Delta Western delivers an average of 200 million gallons of fuel annually in Alaska and employs approximately 150 people.

Job Summary:

The Operations Manager is responsible for coordinating and leading all fuel delivery operations, including linehaul and local home heating delivery. This role involves direct supervision of employees, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations, maintaining facility conditions, and encouraging customer relationships.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, hire, train, and handle CDL drivers (Class A/B) while promoting the company's core values.
  • Ensure safe and timely delivery of dispatched loads, address customer concerns, and handle complaints beyond the dispatcher's scope.
  • Monitor equipment status and perform preventative maintenance to improve operational uptime and control costs.
  • Conduct facility maintenance inspections and address minor repairs to maintain smooth fuel distribution operations.
  • Monitor customer fuel requirements and pricing, finding opportunities to expand the customer base.
  • Implement company safety policies and programs, conduct safety inspections, and report concerns to the appropriate channels.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, maintain fleet maintenance records, and schedule equipment inspections and testing.
  • Provide direct supervision to distribution employees, mentoring, motivating, and developing staff.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and conduct training for location staff, including disciplinary actions when vital.
  • Conduct driver ride-alongs for training and customer interaction.
  • Perform annual performance reviews and recommend salary adjustments based on accomplishments and goal achievement.
  • Serve as the facility's first point of contact and provide technical advice, pricing, and product information to customers.
  • Handle customer accounts, generate sales orders, and handle accounting responsibilities.
  • Perform general office maintenance, handle inventory, and occasionally make small CDL deliveries.
  • Participate in sales calls, represent the company at community and work-related functions.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in the petroleum industry or relevant substitute experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge of DOT, Hours of Service, and OSHA/Hazmat regulations.
  • Class A CDL preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • TWIC, Hazmat and Hazwoper can be acquired after hire.
  • Forklift Certificate can be acquired after hire.
