Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) Construction Inspector

SCOPE: Primarily involving the inspection of interior mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire alarm / protection building systems. Also, some minor concrete, structural, architectural, and environmental work.
REQUIREMENTS
• Experience in all types of mechanical construction including mechanical equipment room upgrades and rehabilitation, hot water generators, boilers, breeching, piping installation/replacement/upgrades, domestic and gray water distribution systems, building management systems, HVAC and BMS installation and controls, fire alarm systems, security systems pump systems and electrical systems.
• Experience in the management of various types of contracting methods including lump sum, unit price and net cost.
• A strong working knowledge of the NYC Building Code, and all other associated jurisdictional codes governing work in the City of New York.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to read plans and specs and prepare written contract administration documentation such as daily narratives (work reports), controlled inspection reports, daily time and material records, and document unit price work.
• Ability to identify potential extra work issues and keep Resident Engineer advised of issues.
• Ability to prepare estimates of extra work. Prepare related sketches and documentation.
• Ability to review plans for constructability and prepare comments.
• Review contractor payment requests and recommend reasonableness to the Resident Engineer.
• Knowledgeable in contract administration techniques to expedite contract work. Proficiency with Ebuilder, or other similar submittal management platforms.
• Although normal working hours will be 0700 to 1530, availability to work night and weekend shifts.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or University is desirable.
• Minimum 5 years experience inspecting construction work on projects within the value range of $500K to $100 million).
• A valid Driver’s License is required.
• An OSHA 30-hour certification is required.
• Proficiency in the use Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Passing a SWAC Background Check at High Level.
