MATERIAL HANDLER

General Purpose:

Handles incoming and outgoing material and shipments, prepares packed glass for shipment, makes shipping boxes, and coordinates all internal material transfers. NOTE: Wearing personal protective equipment, as defined in the work instruction for this job, is mandatory.

Essential Functions:

· Receives incoming material, using the “Production Schedule” provided by the Materials department

· Stamps, signs and dates all receiving slips.

· Alerts the Production Supervisor or the Quality Assurance Technician if they notice any damage to the material/packaging during receiving inspection.

· Handles incoming inspection of the Customer Supplied Shipping material (boxes) and notes any damages on the packing list.

· Loads raw glass on the Billco and puts Supplier Raw Material Tickets in the red folder.

· Puts tags on incoming “Pre Cut” material for inspection by the Quality Dept.

· Stores received material in an organized fashion and ensures that all goods are easily identifiable

· Builds shipping boxes

· Receives, inspects, stores, and prepares reusable containers

· Supplies cutting line with raw glass and final inspectors with the appropriate shipping containers and supplies the Final Inspectors with cardboard

· Loads/unloads trucks after the production line demands have been satisfied

· Picks up loaded boxes from the final inspectors, closes them, labels them and stores them

· Operates forklift, air gun and other tools in a safe manner

· Charges forklift throughout the shift

· Should not drive forklift when the battery is less than half charged

· Inspects battery on the forklifts and electrical hand jacks and fills the battery with water as necessary without overfilling

· Gathers trash and empties trash dumpsters (plastic roll-off) into waste truck

· Identifies material to be shipped, assists office in preparing paperwork, stages and loads outgoing material

· Removes all “old” labels from returnable packaging material

· Cleans work area as needed or directed

· Performs clean-up tasks upon request

· Does all other duties as assigned

· For the MHs assigned to the WindowPack area (applicable only to personnel at Exchange): Makes sure that the laborers (windowpack people) always have what they need (i.e. glass, frames, boxes). This includes emptying out their garbage.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

· High school or GED and three months experience, or appropriate training and three months related experience

· An individual is considered qualified upon notification by the PS or department head to HR that the employee has successfully completed the training and is qualified to perform the position. Notation of this notification is made in the employee’s training records.

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

· Ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in either written or oral form

· Ability to obtain forklift operator’s license
