NOW SEEKING FULL-TIME DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS with ART SKILLS!

Being a Direct Support Professional at Blank Canvas Studios (BCS) is more than just a job, it's a rewarding opportunity to work in a creative environment by assisting people with special needs to explore the arts and express themselves. A DSP art staff is a creative and responsible individual able to collaborate with studio management, studio staff, and the artists we support in order to assist BCS artists in developing, organizing, and promoting their artwork both at the studio and in the community.We are looking for full-time DSPs to work Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm in the studio with us.

Responsibilities/Duties

-Facilitate individuals with disabilities in creating art with various art mediums.
-Able to exercise good judgment, positive modeling and initiative in providing services and supports to the individual.
-Provide direct assistance/support to the individuals as needed to perform the tasks of daily living and daily routines such as personal hygiene, dining skills and other associated tasks
-Assist with an individual's mobility as needed for those whose walk is unsteady and/or they rely on a wheelchair.
-Assist/support individuals during mealtimes. Use this time to teach and promote social skills.
-Complete any and all data collection, MAR's, observation notes and daily reports as instructed
-Ensure individuals receive their medications as prescribed by their physician and documented on the Medication Administration Record (MAR). Specifically, make certain the
correct medication(s), dosage, route and time have been given to the individuals and documented appropriately on the MAR.
-Access to vehicle in good working order and maintaining current license, registration, and insurance.
-Use open, positive, encouraging interactions with the individuals that reflect dignity and respect while promoting their independence, ability to choose, rights and
responsibilities.
-Possess or acquire through staff training the ability to express and perform job duties that reflect a working knowledge of individuals rights, abuse and neglect, person-centered services, including personal Support Plans and goals of integrating persons with disabilities into the community

Required Education

-High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Required Qualifications

-Valid Missouri Driver's License, a good driving record, and up to date vehicle insurance.
-Satisfactory completion of criminal background check as required by federal and/or state laws and any other post-offer pre-employment screenings as mandated by a governing agency or RHD.

Program Summary

As a program of Resources for Human Development, Blank Canvas Studios has been providing arts-based services to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities since 2009 in Saint Charles, Missouri. Clients at BCS work directly with a team of staff made up of local artists, and are given the opportunity to showcase and sell their artwork in the local community. BCS Artists are encouraged to explore a variety of art mediums, including: painting, sculpting, graphic design, illustration, printmaking, drawing, dance, theater, film, photography, video and music, jewelry, and fiber arts.
