Summary/Objective

The Billing Specialist is crucial for the efficient management of billing operations within our healthcare facility. This role involves preparing and submitting billing data, maintaining patient insurance information, and ensuring timely payment of accounts. The Billing Specialist will work closely with healthcare providers and patients to clarify any discrepancies in billing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with healthcare regulations.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Prepare, review, and transmit claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing.
  2. Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframes.
  3. Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount.
  4. Resolve denials, send out patient statements, and manage collections on unpaid accounts.
  5. Maintain all patient payment records and conduct financial recordkeeping.
  6. Communicate with insurance providers to verify benefits and obtain authorizations.
  7. Handle patient inquiries regarding billing and resolve any issues promptly.
  8. Occasionally cover other positions and responsibilities within the department.

Qualifications

  1. Must have computer skills and the ability to navigate the electronic health records system.
  2. Strong ability to multi-task with high degree of accuracy, attention to detail a must.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  4. Superior verbal and written skills
  5. Strong interpersonal skills essential
  6. Concern for satisfied employees and customers; strong sense of mission
  7. Education: High School diploma is required. Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred, or certificate in billing and coding.
  8. Experience: Proven experience in vision billing or related field within a healthcare setting.
  9. Proficient in billing software and electronic medical records.
  10. Strong understanding of insurance policies, regulations, and the billing process.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clinical setting within a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, scanners and filing cabinets.

 

The work week: Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week. 

Travel: Rare
