GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Engineer – Manufacturing (Junior) is responsible for the efficient build of a high-quality pump which includes but not limited to: development and implementation of efficient work flow and build methods, documentation, materials, machinery, tooling, fixtures, and training as well as cost efficiency and implementing Lean Manufacturing principals throughout the organization. The Engineer – Manufacturing must have the ability to understand, create, maintain, and report out manufacturing data for our products internally and externally. This role works closely and communicates effectively with management of other departments to implement the company’s policies and goals, improve the reliability of products, and increase production efficiency and cost savings to the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods and implement Lean principals, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  2. Writes assembly instructions, manufacturing processes, and procedures to guide shop personnel in building and testing pumps along with all other aspects of the manufacturing process.
  3. Develops new tooling to reduce production costs and improve efficiency, quality, reliability and safety.
  4. Plans, directs and coordinates manufacturing processes in the plant; responds to manufacturing issues and concerns to ensure products are produced to specifications and according to manufacturing schedules.
  5. Analyzes the plant’s personnel and capital resources to select the best way of meeting production goals. Determines appropriate staffing levels to meet the needs of the production department. Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing capabilities, requirements and potential.
  6. Working closely with the manager – quality to develop, evaluate, and improve production and repair quality inspection protocols for in process inspections, tools, and manufacturing equipment.
  7. Work closely with the manger – operations to create training and development programs and classes for new and existing employees. Train the trainers and follow up to determine the effectiveness of training.
  8. Monitor and maintain equipment service, repair, and maintenance records.
  9. Achieves cost-out and efficiency gains for design, manufacturing, planning and sourcing.
  10. Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends, and reports and presents to internal and external customers by phone, email and in person.
  11. Collects, analyzes, and manages data to predict and minimize failures and improve reliability of Paragon’s products. Uses failure analysis, FRACAS, or other types of root cause analysis and reports to internal and external customers as required.
  12. In cooperation with all department heads and the safety committee, supports existing and develops new safety policies and procedures. Ensures employees have and wear personal protective equipment, are properly trained in safety policies and procedures, and are held accountable.
  13. Involves minimal travel to meet with customers, suppliers, training programs, and other locations related to the position.
  14. Performs related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

  1. Knowledgeable in manufacturing best practices and Lean Principals is a must.
  2. Good relational and presentation skills to communicate with inside and outside customers
  3. Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience in Access is desirable.
  4. Knowledge and experience following and implementing lean Six Sigma, 5S, IPC, SPC and ISO quality standards are important to this position.
  5. Able to read blueprints, customer specifications and other technical documents.
  6. Able to design or direct designers for tooling and fixtures.
  7. Ability to apply a wide range of mathematical and statistical concepts to the production process. Awareness of the use of analytic software like Mini Tab desirable.
  8. Working knowledge of Weibull reports desired.
  9. Tact, good judgment, and exceptional ability to establish and maintain effective personal relationships with co-workers and customers is required.
  10. Experience in the use of hand tools and understanding basic concepts of more automated tools is mandatory
  11. Understands strategic management aspects of reliability engineering, its relationship to safety and quality, warranty exposure, its impact on customer satisfaction, and the consequences of failure.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering is required. Currently enrolled in school working toward a degree will be accepted.
  2. 1 or more years of related experience recommended.
  3. Formal Six Sigma training a plus.
  4. Experience with pump design/manufacturing is ideal; knowledge of large mobile and stationary engine accessory systems a plus.
