Geomembrane Liner Technician

NOVA Engineering is seeking an experienced Geomembrane Liner Technician to join our team in Columbia, SC. This position offers a variety of duties including CQA (Construction Quality Assurance) services to observe, document, and monitor construction activities associated with landfill and mine construction and geotechnical/environmental remediation. Projects include tailings storage facilities, water storage ponds, cell liner systems, cell final closure cap systems, and other related projects. The individual should have strong initiative and be able to perform routine-to-complex inspection and testing of construction materials in the field to verify conformance to construction plans and specifications. NOVA will cover the cost of certifications required to perform your role.

Responsibilities:

• Follows and adheres to all safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for each individual project. (Reports safety concerns to project managers.)
• Observe placement of geosynthetics and perform associated tests.
• Observe placement of clay liner, perform compaction testing, and acquire samples for hydraulic conductivity.
• Ability to interpret plans and specifications for individual projects and directly relay discrepancies to all parties.
• Ensure all testing equipment and tools are properly calibrated and maintained.
• Interacting and communicating daily with clients, general contractors, subcontractors, technicians, and project managers.
• Operates under minimal supervision with daily coordination with project manager and has desire to learn.
• Provides excellent customer service to internal and external clients.

Requirements:

• 5,000,000 ft2 of geomembrane liner installation experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in completing at least 5 CQA projects involving geosynthetics or clay liner systems.
• Ability to communicate professionally orally and proficient in writing skills.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Perform heavy lifting up to 50+lbs and ability to work in seasonal conditions (hot, cold, rain, etc.)

Preferred Certifications:

• Geosynthetics Certification (GCI-ICP)
• NICET Certifications (Soils, Concrete, Asphalt)
• MSHA Certification
• ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Level I
• Nuclear Density Gauge/Radiation Safety
• State equivalent certification (EX. SCDOT, GDOT, etc.)
