Job Title: Work Readiness Training Facilitator

Reports to: Program Manager

Category: Temporary Contract

Positions Available: 10

Location: Detroit, Michigan

Contract Duration: May-July 2024

Hours/Days Overview:

  • Applicants must be able to commit to all dates.
  • All dates are in-person.
  • For training with groups, a facilitator must be able to commit to both days with Group 1 OR both days with Group 2. A facilitator can commit to both days for both groups, also. All facilitators must be present for our Make-up Day, also.
  • Facilitator Training: Tuesday June 11-Thursday June 13, 2024 @ 5-7pm
  • Work Readiness Training Runthrough: Friday June 21, 2024 @ 12-4pm
  • Work Readiness Training
    • Group 1
      • Monday June 24, 2024 @ 11am-2pm (10am-2:30pm for facilitators)
      • Tuesday June 25, 2024 @ 11am-2pm (10am-2:30pm for facilitators)
    • Group 2
      • Wednesday June 26, 2024 @ 11am-2pm (10am-2:30pm for facilitators)
      • Thursday June 27, 2024 @ 11am-2pm (10am-2:30pm for facilitators)
    • Make-up Day
      • Saturday June 29, 2024 @ 9am-3pm (8am-3:30pm for facilitators)
  • Facilitator Debrief and Celebration: Wednesday July 10, 2024 @ 6-8pm


Compensation:

$20 per hour for facilitation

$10 per hour for training

Position Overview:

We're seeking passionate youth facilitators to lead work readiness training sessions for Detroit's youth. As a facilitator, you'll use the provided curriculum to cover communication, professionalism, and basic financial literacy. Ideal candidates will have experience engaging groups of 14-20-year-olds and excel in creating an interactive and inclusive learning environment.

Required Qualifications & Skills:
  • Education: Associate degree or equivalent
  • Strong Communication Skills: Effectively communicating with students from diverse backgrounds and engaging them in meaningful discussions.
  • Experience in Youth Development: At least four years of experience working with youth aged 14-20 in educational or community settings, demonstrating an understanding of their needs and challenges.
  • Experience in Independent Group Facilitation: Proven track record of successfully leading and guiding groups of 20 or more students autonomously, demonstrating strong facilitation skills and the ability to engage and manage large groups effectively
  • Knowledge of Workforce Readiness: Familiarity with topics related to work readiness, such as resume writing, job searching, interview skills, and workplace etiquette.
  • Cultural Competency: Sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding how they may impact student engagement and learning.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt teaching strategies and approaches to meet the needs of different learners and address unexpected challenges during sessions.
  • Feedback and Evaluation Skills: Capacity to provide constructive feedback to students and program organizers to enhance the effectiveness of the training sessions.
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Demonstrated commitment to creating inclusive learning environments and addressing systemic barriers to student success.
  • Team Collaboration: Willingness to collaborate with program staff, fellow facilitators, and community partners to ensure the program's success.
  • Proficiency in Presentation Technology: Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize common presentation tools, including but not limited to laptops, iPads, HDMI cords, projectors, and PowerPoint software

Core Responsibilities:
  • Attend training sessions for curriculum content, facilitation techniques, and DEI best practices.
  • Commit to leading a minimum of three sessions (held on Saturdays)
  • Create a welcoming and safe space for students to participate actively
  • Establish classroom expectations and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Utilize the provided curriculum to facilitate group discussions and activities
  • Address individual student inquiries about workplace readiness and preparation
  • Provide program feedback to improve student participation and outcomes
