Licensed Motor Vehicle Inspector

JOB PURPOSE

Examine customer vehicles to guarantee they fully operational and meet all established requirements by the state DMV. A Motor Vehicle Inspector meets the needs of the customer by ensuring they are confident in the safety of their vehicle.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Inspect automotive vehicles to ensure compliance to emission standards and governmental regulations.
• Inspect accessories, air lines, and electric circuits.
• Check for damage, broken headlights, leaks, and faulty blinkers.
• Test vehicle for wear-and-tear damage.
• Inspects and assesses the condition of all the vehicle's essential mechanical systems and components.
• Check for improper adjustment.
• Approve or deny vehicular inspection and issue inspection reports.
• Suggest improvements to vehicle that fails inspection.
• Keep records of vehicles inspected.
• Check for illegal equipment installed on vehicle.
• Check preventive maintenance programs.
• Investigate complaints, accidents, and operations.
• Prepares reports based on findings from the inspections to be presented to the fleet's manager and/or mechanics.
• Explains and interprets related laws and regulations and communicates with the fleet's manager and mechanics to help ensure the fleet's compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.

REQUIREMENTS

• Motor Vehicle Inspection License (Required)
• 2-3 years of experience in automotive repair and maintenance.
• Read, write, and speak English.
• Valid TX driver’s license required
• Must be able to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time (typically no longer than 8 hours).
• Comfortable entering and reading information on computer screen.
• Customer-focused attitude with ability to work well in a team environment
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Automotive Shop
• Able to withstand exposure to fumes and cleaning products.
• Work in an environment that frequently experiences extreme hot and cold temperatures, loud noises, and exhaust fumes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to stand on concrete or metal surfaces for extended periods of time (typically no longer than 8 hours.)
• Lift and move inventory items, trashcans, and other work-related items (up to 50 pounds).
• Must be able to push, pull, pull up, bend at the knees and waist, twist body at the waist, raise and hold arms overhead, turn head-neck-shoulders as needed, grasp and hold tools and other items with hands, for either extended periods of time or many times throughout the shift.
