KIND OF WORK
The Information Security division of the Information Technology Department is seeking a highly motivated IT Systems Engineer to aid in the administration of infrastructure and security systems.  
 
The ideal candidate will have experience related to server infrastructure, group policy, access management, identity management, active directory, group policy, and security controls.

Daily work will include a need for critical thinking in analyzing data received by navigating numerous security partner dashboards, management tools, detection tools, and prevention tools to monitor endpoints, servers, appliances, applications, infrastructure, and cloud delivered applications for vulnerabilities.
 
This individual must have the ability to report on threat metrics, attempted attacks, or security breaches.  Ability to respond to security threats or breaches with relevant urgency, following a systematic and procedural approach.  Work closely with peers and vendors to develop information security best practices, develop recommendations for security improvements, and provide written instructions (enhancements) to mitigate vulnerabilities.  Researching security- related trends, analyzing data, and then effectively communicating this information to teams in person (verbally) or in writing.

The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2024. 

The full salary range for an IT Systems Engineering Associate, including longevity pay, is $28.17 - $39.82 per hour.  
The full salary range for an IT Systems Engineer, including longevity pay, is $32.45 - $46.24 per hour.  
The full salary range for an IT Systems Engineer Senior, including longevity pay, is $34.91 - $49.88 per hour. 

This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
An employee in this class is responsible for assisting and performing routine IT engineering infrastructure tasks; building and maintaining infrastructure and database systems.  Duties include assisting in the designing, monitoring and maintaining the County's infrastructure services, database systems and servers.  The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. CONSTANT: Near vision; use fingers; and sit. FREQUENT: Midrange vision, hear within 5 feet and up to 20 feet; grasp; work alone and work inside. OCCASIONAL: Lift and carry up to 10 pounds; far vision; talk/speak; walk; work with others and drive.
SELECTION PROCESS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - IT Systems Engineer - Associate (Pass/Fail):
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, information technology or a closely related field; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's degree in computer science, management information systems, information technology, or a closely related field AND two (2) years full-time paid verifiable experience in the infrastructure or database discipline; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the Human Resources Director.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - IT Systems Engineer (Pass/Fail):
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, management information systems, information technology or a closely related field AND four (4) years full-time paid verifiable experience in either the infrastructure or database discipline; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree in computer science, information systems, management information systems, information technology, network administration or a closely related field AND six (6) years full-time paid verifiable experience in infrastructure or database discipline; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the Human Resources Director.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - IT Systems Engineer Senior (Pass/Fail):
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, management information systems, information technology or a closely related field AND six (6) years full-time paid verifiable experience in either the infrastructure or database discipline; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree in computer science, information systems, management information systems, information technology, network administration or a closely related field AND eight (8) years full-time paid verifiable experience in either the infrastructure or database discipline; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the Director of Human Resources and Administration.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
Note: At the discretion of the hiring authority, the successful candidate may be considered for appointment at the IT Systems Engineer Associate, IT Systems Engineer or IT Systems Engineer Senior level, contingent on minimum qualifications and department need. This would be determined at the time a job offer is extended.

RATING SYSTEM:
Supplemental Questions will be 100% of the scoring process:

Points will be awarded based on the applicants answers to supplemental questions 8-12.
