POSITION SUMMARY

The Radiology Technician performs radiology exams to produce diagnostic radiographs (X-Rays) to diagnose medical issues as directed by the designated Nurse Practitioner.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  1. Evaluates medical information to determine patients' risk factors, such as allergies to contrast agents, or make decisions regarding procedures' appropriateness.
  2. Provide counseling to radiologic patients to explain the processes, risks, benefits, or alternative diagnostic testing.
  3. Maintains knowledge of basic equipment operations and is familiar with the operational manuals of the company's equipment.
  4. Performs and documents daily and monthly controls on equipment as per facility policy.
  5. Must be able to interpret and execute physician image/scanning instructions accurately, physician orders, and safely administer contrast materials.
  6. Must utilize proper safety procedures so as not to create an overexposure scenario for both employee and patient. This includes but is not limited to the appropriate use of peak kilovoltage (KVP) and milliamps per second (MAS) as designated in protocols.
  7. Assist Healthcare providers with patient examinations and procedures.
  8. Perform Basic laboratory tests and collect specimens for testing.
  9. Ensure compliance with infection control protocols maintain a clean and organized environment.
  10. Able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in conditions or response to treatment of patients.
  11. Observes patient records significant conditions and reactions and notifies the RN and Physician of patient's condition and response to medications, treatments, and significant incidents.
  12. Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs and reports findings to the RN.
  13. Responds to life-saving situations based on skill and training levels, policies, procedures, and protocol. Uses equipment according to the manufacture's guidelines, including but not limited to proper start-up and shut- down of equipment.
  14. Provide patient education medications, procedures, and general healthcare topics.
  15. Facilitates department operations through completion of all patient logs, procedure requisitions, and other paperwork, either through the computer system or via the manual system.
  16. Maintain awareness of current facility and department operational policies and procedures which impact position responsibilities.
  17. Application of splints, immobilizers, ace bandages, and measurement of crutches with crutch training.
  18. Maintain order and assist routinely with the facility's general maintenance and cleanliness, including but not limited to sanitizing patient care areas, making beds, and maintaining a safe work environment.
  19. Perform appropriate advanced indirect and direct patient care at a competent level as directed by a Physician within the scope of facility-approved skills inventory according to the needs/age of the patient/population served, including phlebotomy and EKG; in the implementation of direct patient care; document care provided inpatient medical record in accordance with policies/procedures.
  20. Ensure adequate stock of supplies and proper equipment maintenance, assisting costs containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
  21. Remains flexible relative to changing staffing patterns; participates in temporary assignments; regular attendance; compliance with attendance standards; regularly attends required staff meetings. Demonstrates flexibility when changes in assignments are necessary.
  22. Maintain awareness of all current operational policies and procedures which impact position responsibilities to include but not limited to HIPAA, Life Safety, and environment of care policies.
  23. Maintain safety precautions to minimize radiation exposure to patients, other personnel, and self. Appropriate application of time, distance, and shielding.
  24. Based on job responsibilities, performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical and health care errors.
  25. Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with facility standards.
  26. Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and saliva; Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens, including proper labeling. Performs tests in an accurate and timely manner.
  27. Ensures that patients are transported safely, in accordance with company policy and procedures, to and from the radiology department.
  28. Radiology Technologists are expected to perform tasks and duties outside of what may be viewed as traditional assignments for Radiology Technologist.

Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for periods ranging from 6 to 12 hours at a time. Use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit in short or extended intervals as needed. The employee must frequently lift and move up to twenty-five pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment - The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and the risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and radiation risk. The employee may be exposed to various contagious diseases or conditions that have the potential of being physically, emotionally, and psychologically harmful. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:
Associate degree: Health Science or Radiology
Bachelor's degree: Health Science or Radiology Preferred

Experience:
At least 1-year recent x-ray experience in a clinical setting.
Maintain skills and knowledge in the advancement of techniques and protocols,
Working knowledge of X-ray and related equipment.

Computer Skills: Keyboarding/typing

Certifications & Licenses: Current ARRT License BLS/Health Care Providers CPR
