We are currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Land Mobile Radio (LMR) - Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) Technician to join our team. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, from the installation of new Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) equipment and cabling, to oversee the operation, maintenance, and administration of our LMAR - DAS infrastructure and decommissioning of outdated systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in telecommunications, with specific expertise in both coaxial and fiber optic cable installations, as well as head-end and DAS peripheral equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct new DAS active component and cable installations, ensuring all work is performed in accordance with the design and government requirements and adheres to manufacturer and industry standard guidelines.
  • Install coaxial and fiber optic cables, maintaining proper spacing from electrical sources and ensuring all installations meet referenced standards.
  • Install head-end equipment and DAS peripheral equipment as per project requirements and standards.
  • Perform precise cable terminations.
  • Mark and label all cables as per customer requirements and in compliance with applicable standards and directives.
  • Secure cable supports and ensure all installed equipment and hardware are properly grounded, as applicable.
  • Fire stop and seal all penetrations in existing structures, ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
  • Ensure the availability of test documents and provide copies to the customer.
  • Remove all work debris upon completion of installation tasks.
  • Submit a copy of the Final Acceptance test results to the customer, if necessary.

System Decommissioning Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute the removal and disposal of outdated DAS components and cabling.
  • Ensure the new DAS is operational before beginning decommissioning tasks.
  • Restore building structures to their original state, ensuring compliance with safety and building codes.
  • Manage the disposal of obsolete hardware and ensure compliance with all necessary documents.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, or replace all DAS devices on a 24/7/365 basis to ensure continuous system availability.
  • Achieve and maintain a DAS availability rate of 99.99%, in line with life-safety system standards for Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems.
  • Swiftly detect and document any unauthorized outages through the JSP ticketing system, ensuring service disruption is minimized (resolution within two hours for critical issues and four hours for non-critical issues).
  • Conduct all necessary corrective maintenance to restore any failed circuit, component, or service to operational status. This includes diagnosing problems, repairing or replacing faulty components, making configuration changes, deploying new equipment or cable plants, and verifying repair actions to support the target availability rate.
  • Provide operations and maintenance support for management systems, including servers and passive cable plant infrastructure. This encompasses all RF active and passive components and fiber optic point to point circuits, in accordance with the ITA transition agreement dated 19 May 2011.

Qualifications:

  • Possess Three (3) years of experience in installation, repair and maintenance of telecommunications outside plant facilities and Land Mobile Radio (LMR) - Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS).
  • Must be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Strong understanding of coaxial and fiber optic cable work.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, manufacturer guidelines, and safety protocols.
  • Technical skill, attention to detail, and efficiency in project execution.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear documentation and reports.
  • Proven experience in DAS maintenance and troubleshooting, with a strong understanding of RF and fiber optic systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage critical situations with a focus on minimizing downtime.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and the ability to document and manage outages efficiently.
  • Commitment to achieving high availability standards, with a focus on maintaining system integrity and customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a capacity for diagnosing and correcting complex technical issues.
