Raba Kistner is seeking a detail-oriented, dependable Graduate Engineer to join our CoMET team in Austin, TX. The Graduate Engineer’s primary responsibility will be to perform construction materials and geotechnical engineering investigations and studies in a timely and accurate manner within the specified budget. This will include engineering observations at existing building sites, oversight of subcontractors for field services, classification of samples, assignments of laboratory testing, interpretation of engineering data, performing engineering calculations, and the preparation of written engineering reports. Other responsibilities include:

  • Serve in the capacity of a Graduate Engineer to work with clients to determine scope of work and estimated costs for construction materials testing projects, as required, under the direction and review of the Manager.
  • Perform engineering observation at “work sites” and direct technical staff and subcontractors, as required.
  • Perform construction observation services in the field on construction sites as needed.
  • Prepare and review draft-engineering reports based on analyses of project data, laboratory and field observation notes, as required.
  • Dictate, detail, and photograph findings of field observations for draft report preparation.
  • Conduct engineering analysis of field data and laboratory test results supporting the preparation of report data
  • Participate in report preparation, as required, to satisfy client’s needs.
  • Assist the Construction Materials Engineering and Testing Supervisor on project scope development, design of testing protocols, and construction materials testing projects, as required.
  • Review and edit laboratory and field test reports upon completion of primary review by the Construction Materials Supervisor, and forward them for Professional Engineering signature and seal.
  • Maintain close contact with Clients during the entire duration of each project.
  • Assist Business Manager in the review of prebilling invoices in preparation of final invoicing.
  • Contact and follow up with Clients on invoicing and status of payment.
  • Approve and direct project purchases with Direct Report, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited school required.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification in the State of Texas preferred or the ability to obtain within one year of date of employment.
  • Possess valid Texas driver’s license and meet firm’s auto insurability requirements.

Good oral and written communications skills and ability to work in teams at different levels within the organization. Advanced in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Must be self-motivated with good attendance record and be able to work independently.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, focus vision and depth vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate (business office with computers/printers, light traffic, etc.), or loud.

Potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require employee to follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment.

May be required to drive a vehicle short and/or long distances to job sites. Position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs. Able to travel to project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain. Work responsibilities require out of town travel to Raba Kistner offices, client offices, and project locations.
