COMPENSATION
$85-90 per hour (paid overtime)

CONTRACT LENGTH
2 years with high likelihood of extension or conversion to a full time employee

SCHEDULE
14/14 hitch schedule during offshore work (12 hour days)
POSITION OVERVIEW: Offshore Substation Transmission Specialist
The primary responsibility of this person is to be placed Offshore on our offshore substation(s) ensuring safety on site.

JOB DUTIES
  • Implementation of the clients Electrical Safety Rules on site, including the safe system of work
  • Advise operationally on high voltage electrical installations to Wind Turbine Generators, offshore substations and both HV submarine and onshore cables
  • Oversee safe commissioning of grid connections, onshore substations and associated MV/HV/LV plant and equipment
  • Oversee all MV/HV/LV electrical operational activities to ensure safety, security and integrity of the HV network
  • Contribute to proactive management, good coordination and communication between all parties and that the process works effectively
  • Coordinate MV/HV/LV commissioning activities through the project construction stages
  • High Voltage Switching experience
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure compliance with and management of clients Electrical Safety Rules
  • Safety coordination in electrical matters
  • Act as a senior authorized person
  • Outage management and network control in collaboration with the Control Engineers
  • Update MV/HV/LV schematic diagrams
  • Inspect work sites and perform site safety inspections and auditing for electrical matters
  • Coordinate with the Lead Commissioning Project Manager to ensure that accurate updates are distributed to the Project Management
  • Manage and coordinate HV/MV/LV commissioning activities
  • Coordinate with National Grid and attend commissioning panel meetings
  • Prepare and check high voltage switching schedules
  • Check method statements for electrical matters
  • Implement and provide training programs for relevant staff according to the rules
  • Provide technical and engineering advice to working parties for electrical matters
  • Assist different departments in company when required
  • Attendance at FAT and SAT tests if required
KEY DELIVERABLES
  • Input to the project commissioning management manual and related documents (including pre-commissioning and commissioning quality plans)
  • Participation in different audits
  • Reports from FAT & SAT on the different high-voltage equipment’s
  • Onsite check of switching programs
  • Participation in the planning of resource and work activities
  • Participation in authorizations and assessments of new candidates
  • Deliver inputs to the design phase of the project on technical aspects
  • Switching on HV/MV & LV equipment
  • Grounding of equipment & creating isolation zone’s
  • Setting up demarcation of worksites for contractors based on Work Requests
  • Lead toolbox talks to start working parties.
  • Pre and Post energization checks of all equipment across the windfarm.
  • Participating in work rotations both offshore and onshore if assigned to that rotation.
  • Project specific administrative tasks to assist Lead SAP
  • Ability to work on Microsoft platforms (excel, word, outlook, etc.…)
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
DECISION AUTHORITY/RESPONSIBILITY
  • Say in relation to MV/HV switching and isolations
  • Issue of client Electrical Safety Rules safety rules documents
  • Management of electrical safety to work onsite
REQUIREMENTS
  • Appropriate electrical qualification and background related to the authorization scope.
  • Several years of operation and commissioning experience within the field of high voltage electricity, offshore experience preferable
  • Experienced in performing switching operations on high-voltage transmission assets
  • Have experience working at transmission and distribution voltage levels
  • Minimum 1 year of working experience within onshore substations systems
  • Minimum 6 months of working experience within offshore substations systems, preferable
  • Minimum 1 year of working experience within wind turbines, preferable
  • Complete and up to date GWO courses, BST, and HUET with CA-EBS
