STRIVE serves students in the McGavock Cluster (Donelson, Hermitage, Old Hickory & Napier) and are committed to going above and beyond to ensure students are successful in high school, college, and life.

Position Overview 

As a member of the faculty of STRIVE, the ELL Instructor will implement and support the instructional program, with specific responsibility for teaching small groups, planning lessons, and providing data management. The ELL Instructor will support multiple students who need intensive academic support and remediation. At STRIVE, the ELL Instructor plays a critical role in our mission to provide all students with an excellent education to prepare them for college and beyond. 

Roles and Responsibilities  

Responsibilities include supporting and leading the support of students in the English Language Learners Program. This role includes, but is not limited to, providing direct instruction to students, supporting students within the general education classroom, and supporting teachers with literacy instruction. 

  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards
  • Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the school’s instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies
  • Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area
  • Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress
  • Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
  • Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement

Response to Intervention Specialist  

Responsibilities will include managing and leading the Response to Intervention program (i.e. S-Team & 504), data reporting of Growth & Achievement Assessments and student progress in intervention systems, overseeing internal test coordination, and executing learning lab classes for ELL students.  

  • Plan, lead, and execute the STRIVE Learning Lab structure.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Academics to choose appropriate curriculum and interventions, as well as ensure staff is appropriately trained
  • Implements Response to Intervention (RTI) systems and structures, including progress monitoring student growth.
  • Conduct on-going fidelity checks to ensure scholars are being provided with appropriate and consistent interventions
  • Facilitate monthly data team meetings to address and properly plan for students of concern within the RTI framework, Literacy, and Math coursework
  • Identify appropriate accommodations and accessibility features for students qualifying for supports through Exceptional Education, EL or RTI status
  • Plan, lead, and execute NWEA MAP Testing, Interim Assessment Testing, and ELL/ACCESS Testing
  • Create data reports following NWEA MAP testing to share with the teaching team
  • Assist in execution of state testing
  • Works with students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. guided reading, Tier 2 and 3 interventions, providing writing assistance, reinforce lessons, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of remediation, practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
  • Independently designs and implements engaging lessons driven by data for small groups.
  • Supports coverage and substitute teaching on occasion.
  • Support, lead, and participate in other duties as assigned, including: after school care, morning duty, lunch duty, dismissal duty, and present during transitions. 
  • Will assist teachers, school administrators and other school personnel on the Student Support Team to:
    • Identify the foundational areas of weakness for assigned students,
    • Determine research-based interventions that meet the targeted weakness,
    • Determine validated progress monitoring tools that will measure student growth resulting from the intervention,
    • Analyze ongoing data to make ongoing decisions about next steps.
