Job Title: Accounting Manager
Team: Finance
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
Position Type: Full-time, averaging 40 hours per week with occasional weekend and evening work required.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Compensation: $73,585 – 90,000 based on experience and competencies
Benefits: Employer-paid premiums for employee health insurance (medical, dental, vision, STD and LTD), 401K with 2% employer match, generous PTO, holidays, and paid leave. Relocation reimbursement available.
Work Location: Hybrid with some weekly in-office and site-based work in Portland and/or Gresham, Oregon anticipated (Gateway and/or Rockwood Office).

ABOUT THE POSITION:
Our Just Future is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the General Ledger team. The ideal candidate will have experience as an accountant in our industry, preferably in a senior role. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, this person will streamline our budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes. The controller will also produce thorough financial-status reports for senior managers to help improve our operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Accounting Manager reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for providing expertise in finance, project accounting, accounting services, and organizing the annual budget process. Additionally, the Accounting Manager will supervise two employees on the special projects team, including the Senior GL Accountant and Housing Accountant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Confirm that the agency payroll activities are completed accurately on a timely basis, including the payment of all payroll taxes. Review bi-weekly payroll report for accuracy and backfill payroll processing when payroll specialist is on leave.
- Coordinate annual agency budget preparation by helping manage budgeting software and facilitating the transfer of data from budget owners to the Accounting Team.
- Provide support for Housing Accountant, including reviewing and reconciling all intercompany account balances and ensuring the timely delivery of property audits and tax returns.
- Provide support for Senior GL Accountant, including reviewing all grant accounting and invoicing and the release of restricted net assets.
- Provide accurate and timely financial information to management and other internal and external customers. Provide analysis of said information as requested.
- Assist with preparation of schedules for the parent company financial statement audit.
SECONDARY:
- Document and implement policies and procedures related to job responsibilities and department workflow.
- Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting with CPA preferred.
- Minimum three years of work experience in accounting, preferably in a nonprofit organization with two years of prior supervisory experience.
- Solid knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting methods, practices, procedures, policies and processes.
- Experience in housing or real estate preferred.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel; proficient in Word and other MS Office applications. Extensive experience with computerized accounting systems; knowledge of Abila MIP Fund Accounting is desirable.
- Excellent customer service skills to external and internal constituents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current Oregon Driver’s License and current automobile insurance
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must be able to read, write and speak English both in person and by telephone. Ability to read and interpret accounting regulations, contracts, insurance policies and other complex material. Ability to produce written financial narrative reports for a variety of audiences.
REASONING ABILITY:
The ability to understand the effect of individual accounting entries and decisions on the financial statements taken as a whole is essential. Must be able to prioritize and work under demands of short timelines. The individual must possess the ability to reason logically and methodically.
