Job Description

Job Title: Special Education Teacher and 504 Plan Coordinator

Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver (ACAND)-Brighton, CO

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Dean of Faculty Student Services

Work Hours/Days: M-F, School days and professional development days during the school year

Desired Start Date: August 2024 *

*Please note, you will need to attend training in Hillsdale, MI for up to 10 days in June. Travel to the conference, lodging and food will be covered by ACACS and Hillsdale.

Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000 annually


Position Summary:

We are looking for a Special Education Teacher who can mentor students and teachers, manage IEPs and 504s, and provide general support for our Student Services department.

Located in Brighton, CO, just 3 miles from I-25, Ascent Classical of Northern Denver (ACAND) is a growing school of over 200 students that offers grades K-8 for the 24-25 school year with plans to expand to K-12 by adding one grade per year.

We seek teachers with high standards of excellence, a professional demeanor, a warm rapport with students, clear communication with parents, and a can-do attitude to join our team. The ideal candidate will be organized and devoted to helping students grow in wisdom and virtue.

Essential Functions:

  • Knowledge of behavior support plans, crisis intervention techniques, and proactive/preventative techniques including physical management and positive reinforcement.
  • Participate with family and/or guardians and team in the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Participate with parents and/or guardians and team in the development of 504 accommodation plans.
  • Participate in the case management process as needed.
  • Maintain files and appropriate paperwork for designated caseload.
  • Facilitate and monitor activities in keeping with IEP goals for designated caseload.
  • Develop/Implement appropriate curriculum and corresponding lesson plans for students with significant cognitive and behavioral needs.
  • Facilitate weekly classroom meetings.
  • Attend staff development meetings.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population and staff.
  • Supervise the work of paraprofessionals including daily planning, education of students' needs and progress.
  • Maintain files and appropriate paperwork including IEPs, data tracking, etc.
  • Meet the individualized needs of each student.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • As Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver is a small employer and employees work in a collaborative, team environment, employee must be physically present at school to perform his/her job functions.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Special Education
  • Current license in Special Education in Colorado
  • School experience preferred
  • Commitment to the policies, mission, and vision of Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools of Colorado
  • Commitment to high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively articulate information and issues
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment, superior organization, and computer skills
  • Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with team members
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and always maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • After an offer is accepted, a satisfactory background check as required by state law and Colorado Department of Education
  • Willingness to perform other duties as requested

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to traverse the classroom and school building
  • Must be able to supervise outdoor recess periods for up to 25 minutes outdoors
  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk
  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer

Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc. (ACACS) is a network of public charter schools in Colorado comprised of four campuses. The governing Board of Directors at ACACS has contracted with Minga Education Group (MEG) to provide employment services for all staff at ACACS. Through this partnership, MEG provides employment services, a personnel system for human resources, benefits, payroll services, and access to a 401(k) plan. For naming purposes, Minga Education Group is the employer.
