Job Description

This role will manage the VDC process and resources across the UC Davis Health Replacement Hospital project based in Sacramento, CA. Temporary relocation is required. After the 30 month on-site minimum commitment, the individual will relocate back to the Southern California area. 

The VDC Manager is responsible for the overall management, implementation, and execution of McCarthy’s Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes, tools and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.  

The VDC Manager reports to the project team leadership. 

Key Responsibilities 
 

General Application 

·          Promote a culture of virtual building among all internal and external stakeholders 

·          Project management of VDC planning and execution, including consensus building and integration with all partners/peers through project lifecycle  

·          Partner with Digital Craft & Reality Capture teams to plan, schedule and execute project deliverables 

·          Effectively communicate value proposition and standard of care for all VDC capabilities 

·          Develop integrated relationships with peers and leadership across project cluster teams 

·          Develop and lead implementation of VDC processes, best practices and technology use 

·          Maintain, evaluate, and communicate VDC lessons learned, best practices and metrics for all stages of the project lifecycle 

·          Maintain an active voice of leadership and be known as a VDC subject matter expert 

·          Represent VDC throughout the project lifecycle including client interactions  

·          Ability to produce model content, collect laser scan data and processing and conduct drone flights 

Office/Region and Project Management 

·          Administer and reinforce the established project BIM Execution Plan 

·          Adhere to, update and enforce the project coordination schedule 

·          Negotiate and coordinate Architectural elements required to meet space constraints 

·          Lead QA/QC model-to-drawing process focused on HCAI permit comment response lifecycle  

·          Progress and finalize 3D coordination process through post-permit RFI and submittal responses. 

·          Lead processes to create and review composite deliverables deriving from model coordination including, but not limited to the following:   

    • Edge of Slab Plans, Deck Penetrations, Point Load Analysis, and Reflected Ceiling Plans

·          Lead in-wall/on-wall coordination and elevation process from creation through project team approval, including 3D Coordination, composite elevations, dimensional control and all stakeholder approvals 

·          Integrate with VDC Concrete self-perform modeling support team, schedule and deliverables 

·          Lead Virtual Reality mock-up program 

·          Lead Asset Management, Record Model and As-Built Model deliverable processes 

·          Lead Advanced Reality Capture program at project level (Laser Scanning and Drone Implementation)  

·          Development and ownership of resource plans, integration schedules, and defined scopes of work 

Qualifications 
 

·          BS in Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture is required, or equivalent industry experience 

·          7+ years relevant industry experience; 3+ years dedicated to VDC desired  

·          Proactive and consistent leadership mindset; cultural steward within team  

·          Process oriented, timely, and accountable to commitments/deadlines with ability to adapt to planned/unplanned change and ensure follow through  

·          Strong overall knowledge of building construction sequencing and building systems 

·          Strong overall knowledge of project delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build, Design Build, CMAR) 

·          Excellent verbal and written communication skills, self-motivated individual, effective listener, with ability to actively voice and garner influence among others in small to large audience settings 

·          Proficient in BIM coordination software such as Revizto or Navisworks 

·          Proficient in model authoring BIM software such as Revit and Tekla 

·          Experience with laser scanning and processing; UAS photogrammetry collection and output

For Southern California locations only, the salary range for this position is: $115,000 - $140,000. This does not include possible bonus and other benefits which can impact total compensation. Compensation offered may vary based on work location, experience, qualifications, specialty, training, and market and business considerations, among other factors.
