RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Cemetery Manager, with respect to all cemetery automotive and truck equipment:
· Perform routine scheduled maintenance on automotive, lawn mowing and other cemetery-related equipment in accordance with established standards.
· Make minor repairs and adjustments on such equipment, including clutch, brakes, belts, spark plugs etc. for which the service of a skilled mechanic is not required.
· Diagnose mechanical and other defects in equipment to determine if the service of a skilled mechanic is required.
· Identify causative factors arising from improper and faulty operation of equipment, and advise the Manager accordingly.
· Be proficient in the use of gas welding and cutting equipment.
· Operate all types of cemetery equipment with sufficient skill to detect maintenance needs.
· Assist in the training of regular equipment operators.
· Maintain time, production, parts and maintenance records as required.
· Discharge related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of the proper use of all diagnostic and cemetery equipment.
- Ability to work and exercise judgment independently.
- Ability to maintain neat and accurate maintenance records as needed.
- Ability to maintain a neat and orderly shop area and manage time effectively.
- Ability to stand on concrete and potentially uneven surfaces, including frequent squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching and lifting up to 100 lbs. as necessary.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain a CDL license and medical card within six months of obtaining this position and maintain and re-certify the CDL license and medical card at established intervals.
- Ability to work under various weather conditions, including outdoors and indoors with grease, oil and other chemical substances as required.
- Ability to fulfill the established hours of the position.
- Ability to speak and write English and communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers.
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED certificate, with an automotive trade school degree or certification preferred. Ability to obtain additional training and education as necessary, at the employer’s request.
- Minimum of two years of experience in automotive diagnosis, repair and maintenance.
- Practicing Catholic with a Catholic educational background preferred.
