Position Overview – Technician in Training

We have several positions for Pharmacy Tech Trainees on our Patient Care and Lab Teams. These include Patient Care Coordinator, Prescription Intake Coordinator, Customer Care Associate, and Lab Support.

Job Responsibilities for various Technician in Training positions:

Customer Care Associate

  • Greet visitors and answer or direct questions as appropriate.
  • Ensure HIPAA and patient protected information is kept secure and discarded appropriately.
  • Answer phones, screen inquiries and direct calls.
  • Call or text customers when prescriptions are ready for pick-up.
  • Process payments received from customers using the POS register system.
  • Ensure opening and closing till counts are accurate and compile end of day cash deposits.
  • Sort and route all incoming mail and shipments and prepare outgoing mail and shipments.
  • Maintain lobby, restrooms, and front desk area.
  • Receive, organize, price, and inventory OTC orders.
  • Provide basic operational support for Pharmacist, Patient Care, and Lab Teams as appropriate.

Prescription Intake Coordinator

  • Reviews incoming prescriptions for errors or missing information.
  • Contacts the patient or healthcare provider to obtain or verify missing information.
  • Enters patient demographics information into WinRx.
  • Manages the fax queue including sorting, date/time stamping, and faxing received confirmations back to healthcare providers.
  • Responds to requests for support from employees checking the status of patient prescriptions.
  • Backs-up Customer Care team.
  • Answers incoming calls and routes calls when necessary.

Patient Care Coordinator

  • Contacts patient to inform them of their insurance coverage, benefits, and copay.
  • Verifies shipping info and collects credit card information from patient.
  • Processes claim reversals and puts prescriptions on hold.
  • Prepares tote for the Lab with required documents for compounding.
  • Transfers the patient to the Pharmacist for consultation on new prescriptions.
  • Answers all incoming calls and routes calls when necessary.
  • Daily follow up calls to patients and providers as needed.
  • Daily follow up on clarifications and prior authorizations initiated by Claim Adjudicator technicians.
  • Documents entire process in WinRx for tracking purposes.

Lab Support

  • Maintains hygienic cleaning standards in the lab and surrounding areas. This includes, but is not limited to sweeping, mopping, cleaning windows, wiping down counters and other surfaces, and taking out trash.
  • Cleans tools and equipment including washing, drying, and returning to appropriate pods.
  • Washes and dries laundry and keeps scrubs and lab coats organized in the locker rooms.
  • Preps chemicals for use in the lab.
  • Restocks supplies in all pods and in the dispensary.
  • Keeps the Lab Storage room clean and organized.
  • Maintains appropriate stock levels of all lab related supplies.
  • General building maintenance as needed.
  • Receives & unpacks orders from vendors.

 

Required Skills & Experience for Technician in Training:

  • Customer Service experience preferred
  • Impeccable phone communication skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume workload environment
  • A demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Basic level PC skills experience
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 20 pounds
  • Arizona State Board of Pharmacy Technician in Training registration is required for all positions. For applicants interested in pharmacy, but without this registration, we require new hires to submit their application to the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy for the registration within the first month of employment.

 

Position Overview – Certified Pharmacy Technician

We have several positions for Certified Pharmacy Technicians on our Patient Care and Lab Teams. These include Claim Adjudicator, Fill Technician, and Compounding.

Job Responsibilities by Position for Certified Pharmacy Technicians:

Claim Adjudicator

  • Provides quality customer service to patients and healthcare providers.
  • Answers and directs phone calls.
  • Enters prescriptions and patient demographics into computer data base.
  • Accurately and efficiently prepares prescription orders for dispensing of medications.
  • Verifies prescription information and dosage while inputting formulation.
  • Works in partnership with the Patient Care Coordinators (PCC) to ensure patients are updated on turn-around time and cost.
  • Works with insurance companies to process and submit claims and ensures proper pricing.
  • Creates formulas for new prescriptions.
  • Contacts referring physician’s offices with questions on prescription or patient information.
  • Partners with a Pharmacist with any prescription questions.

Fill Technician

  • Audits all prescriptions.
  • Corrects errors or brings errors to appropriate team member for correction.
  • Documents all errors found while auditing to identify individual or team training opportunities. Shares results in team meetings.
  • Communicates regularly with the Lab team and alerts them of any high priority totes and low levels of compounded stock on hand.
  • Alerts the Inventory Control Manager of commercially available medications that need to be ordered.
  • Manages the Return to Stock process.
  • Answers and directs incoming phone calls.
  • Supports the Customer Care team by answering questions and helping with customer inquiries and complaints.

Compounder

  • Compounds in all Non-Sterile dosage forms including Capsules, Creams, Suspensions, Troches, etc.
  • Follows all SOPs to ensure medications are made safely.
  • Meets productivity goals for each dosage form.
  • Monitors workflow priorities to ensure promise times.
  • Ensures patients are called to alert them of any issues or delays with their prescription.

 

Required Skills & Experience for Certified Pharmacy Technicians:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician; maintains CE’s to keep license up to date
  • Prior experience in compounding or pharmacy data entry
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Professional and courteous; demonstrates PHA core values
  • Problem solving and strong math skills
  • A demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Personal pride in delivering high quality products while following operational protocols and requirements
  • A highly motivated and productive self-starter
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and excellent time management in a fast paced, high volume workload environment
  • Knowledge of basic principles, theory, laws, regulations, and practices with respect to compounding
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • The physical ability to stand on your feet all day – Compounding & Fill Technician
  • Basic level PC skills experience – Compounding & Claim Adjudicator; Advanced PC skills including the ability to utilize spreadsheets to track, sort, and report data – preferred for Fill Technician
