The Student Services Advisor should also be able to adapt to a high paced work environment and be able to manage multiple priorities and changing assignments. Some of the job responsibilities include:
• New Students- Meet with the student advisee at the time of acceptance to the College to assist with acclimation to academic life, including registering for courses, assessing transfer credits, and overcoming challenges and obstacles.
• Current Students- Meet at a minimum of once each quarter to plan for the upcoming quarter, review academic plan of study, and to address any areas of concern.
• Promotes and reinforces linkages and relationships between the student advisee’s program of study and the desired occupation/career.
• By utilizing the retention tool, Starfish, monitors student progress on a weekly basis in order to assess unsatisfactory work, lack of course participation, failing grades, or incomplete grades from previous quarters. Proactively contacts student advisee to intervene and provide assistance.
• Monitors student progress for all students placed on probation and/or warning. Ensures student adherence to academic plans (if applicable).
• Proactively contacts at-risk students each week to provide resources and/or escalate issues to appropriate professionals (Dean of Student Services, Dean/Department Chair).
• Collaborate with Faculty, Academic Deans, and Program Chairs regarding student progress and concerns, and to understand all aspects of curriculum, and scheduling.
• Maintain up-to-date advising portfolio for each advisee, which includes meeting notes, grade reports, and course requirements completed. Maintain up-to-date notes in Starfish and CampusNexus on each advisee.
• Assist with, support, and/or participates in:
• Meetings, graduation, pinning ceremonies, new student orientation, and other institutional events as assigned
• Enhancing the image of the college in the community
• Participate in service activities that contribute to community, professional, and institutional advancement.
• Participate in professional development activities that promote continued effectiveness in position responsibilities
Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work or related field; Master’s preferred
• One to three years’ experience working in a post-secondary setting preferably in an advising role
