Description

The Principal R&D Chemist utilizes advanced scientific principles and expertise to design and innovate new products and technologies, addressing customer and market needs while generating value for Ascensus and its clientele. This role involves employing experimental design, laboratory techniques, analytical methods, and insights from internal and external experts to execute projects effectively. Collaboration with teams across marketing, sales, R&D, operations, engineering, and customers is encouraged to ensure alignment during development phases. Additionally, the individual actively seeks out advancements in contemporary chemistry and scientific knowledge, leveraging this insight to identify and propose new opportunities for Ascensus

Key Responsibilities
  • Leads the development and delivery of new products and technologies from lab to production, which meet all customer requirements.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues on key scientific principles, including experimental design
  • Reviews lab records and advises on standard operating best practices and procedures. Writes clear and concise technology reports and updates.
  • Engages colleagues on internal results for external communications and presentations to managers and non-technical audiences such as customers.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to update stakeholders on projects and new technologies.
  • Advocates for a safe, clean, uncluttered work area at all times.
  • Ensures all work is conducted safely and professionally. Follows all safety principles and uses all required PPE when performing work. Actively participate in developing safety programs for the lab (Job Hazard Analysis, Audits, Waste Management.)
  • Ensure all developed products meet analytical, application, and functional performance as defined per customer requirements.
  • Presents at approved meetings, seminars, and marketing opportunities.
  • Applies available sources of scientific information (e.g., literature, internal reports, subject matter experts, patents, articles, A.I., etc.) in implementing new product development.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in moving a validated product concept from initial feasibility to pilot and commercial scales.
  • Knowledge in several essential analytical techniques used in the development of products.
  • experience and working knowledge of developing products with special hazards or chemical incompatibilities (e.g., air-sensitive, moisture-sensitive, pyrophoric, high energy, toxic, high potency, etc.).
  • experience working in glove boxes and under isolation in Schlenk conditions.
  • written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to present findings and recommendations to diverse stakeholders.
  • Multi-faceted communicator with solid and proven skills to achieve objectives as a team player.
  • Good facilitator and negotiator. A flexible and innovative approach to problem-solving. Adept at translating ambiguity into action.
  • Experienced in collaboration tools (e.g., Teams, Salesforce, SharePoint, Electronic notebooks,...) to drive engagement and deliver results.
  • Awareness of state-of-the-art development techniques, tools, and processes (e.g., stage gate, design for Six Sigma, design thinking, lean...).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in synthesizing high-purity advanced intermediates and building blocks for high-end applications using chemistries such as Friedel-Crafts alkylation, Sandmeyer, and diazotization reactions.
  • Expertise in laboratory glassware and multistep organic synthesis, isolation, and purification of targeted products independently
  • Demonstrated Hands-on experience in laboratory chemical development of robust, safe, and scalable processes
  • Proficient in the use of all relevant analytical techniques and instrumentation such as NMR, IR, GC and HPLC


Educational Requirements
•BS Degree with 20+ relevant experience desired or
•MS Degree with 10+ years relevant experience desired or
•PhD Degree with 5+ years relevant experience desired
