Position Summary

The Residential Education Coordinator at Westminster University is a twelve-month, full-time, live-in, professional staff member of Residence Life. The position reports directly to the Director of Residence Life and is a member of the Student Life Division. The Residential Education Coordinator position is assigned a 40 hour per week schedule. The schedule may fluctuate depending on the needs of standard operations, such as opening and closing residence halls.

The Coordinator is required to live on campus in a semi-furnished campus residence hall. The Coordinator is provided non-taxable staff housing, which includes utilities, internet, and cable. Cost-free campus parking and a partial meal plan are also provided.

With direction provided by the department director, the Residential Education Coordinator shall have the following responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Supervision and Talent Development

  1. Assist with the selection and supervision of Resident Assistant staff and student employees.
  2. Co-lead a comprehensive training and education to Resident Assistant and student staff members regarding institutional operations, processes, and policy.
  3. Execute a comprehensive evaluation of Resident Assistant and student staff which includes biannual performance evaluations, and development of performance improvement plans when necessary
  4. Assist the Director in identifying relevant and current scholarly theories, best practices, and student development models to inform ongoing professional development of Resident Assistant and student staff.
  5. Recruit and mentor interested student employees and leaders interested in the professional field of student affairs and higher education.
  6. Assist in the development and implementation of an improved program assessment model to measure Resident Assistant programs.

Area Management and Administration

  1. Assist Residence Life in the coordination of the daily operations, such as administrative, maintenance, programming, and community standards responsibilities for 2-3 residential communities.
  2. Support the Associate Director on the operational processes including ongoing facility requests and access requests.
  3. Assist the Associate Director in the management keys for residential facilities
  4. Maintain an operational budget for educational and social programming and approve associated expenditures in accordance with purchasing guidelines
  5. Assist the administration of Persona and eRezlife software systems
  6. Assist in the coordination of move-in and move-out processes including residence hall openings and closings.
  7. Assist the Director and Associate Director in making improvements to the department’s website.
  8. Assist the Director in hosting virtual education sessions on residential education and benefits to prospective students and parent, and current students and parents.
  9. Co-facilitate across-campus department engagement within first-year community lobbies to enhance active programing specific to student wellbeing, safety, security, and campus resources.
  10. Assist in the creation and implementation of engagement programs for parents and guardians of residential students.

Community Development and Programming

  1. Create and nurture inclusive, healthy, and safe communities in residence halls
  2. Coordinate residential programming of Resident Assistants
  3. Develop positive and productive working relationships with departmental colleagues and campus partners including Dining Services and Campus Patrol
  4. Assist in the full implementation of the residence life curriculum to better enhance programming efforts and community development.
  5. Assist the Director to implement formative and summative assessment plans to make data-informed program decisions.
  6. Assist in the implementation and evaluation of the residential curriculum, analyze data, and report student learning by residents and Resident Assistants.

Emergency and Crisis Response

  1. Respond to emergency situations of residential students and implement protocols to resolve on-site threats to student safety and wellbeing.
  2. Assess harm and risk related to student wellbeing, safety, and facility fidelity. Initiate emergency procedures with Campus Patrol, first responders, and senior administrative as applicable.
  3. Provide post-crisis referrals to campus resources.
  4. Work collaboratively with Safe UT in cases of residential student threat to self or others.
  5. Work cooperatively with Campus Security, Salt Lake City emergency services.
  6. Assist in maintaining health, fire, and safety standards in residence halls.
  7. Serves as primary site contact regarding facility emergencies within the residence halls.

Student Conduct and Support

  1. Assist students and other parties in understanding and applying policy
  2. Serve as a campus educator of community standards, the Code of Student Conduct, and resources available including Concerning Student Behavior Form and Title IX reporting
  3. Respond to and process incident reports submitted by Resident Assistants, Campus Patrol, and students to determine appropriate level of adjudication
  4. Centralize a pro-student developmental and educational philosophy of student conduct

Additional Duties

  • Maintain regular office hours; evening and weekend hours sometimes required
  • Designated as essential personnel in event of campus closure or emergency
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority and Mandatory Reporter
  • Data management, facility management, assessment, and reporting
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel/Higher Education Administration or related degree from an accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated two years of graduate assistantship experience in student development, student affairs, and/or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with college students
  • Demonstrated experience in supervision and team building
  • Demonstrated experience in administration, problem-solving, and crisis or emergency response
  • Knowledge and understanding of the following areas: leadership, group facilitation, professionalism, organization, planning, budgeting, written and verbal communication and student development theory and practice

Preferred:

  • Experience working with residential populations in graduate school
  • Experience with software packages: Persona, eRezLife, Advocate, Maxient, Colleague, THD, StarRez


Additional Requirements

  • Extended hours, including evenings and weekends will be required.
  • Ability to respond on-call as assigned, including evenings and weekends is required.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch required., Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds required.
