GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Commercial General Contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator for fast-track projects. The Estimator reports to the Vice President - Estimating and is responsible for preparing and/or coordinating complete estimates as required by the client`s documents to provide the total bid price. The candidate will be expected to estimate projects of up to $8 million. The Estimator is expected to maintain subcontractor relations and stay up to date on industry developments applicable to estimating. Some travel is expected in this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Reviews digital/printed plans, specifications, and related documents and understands the scope of work to bid.
- Reviews, analyzes, and compares subcontractor and supplier proposals to ensure that the scope of work and materials quoted meet project requirements and specifications.
- Participates in identifying Value Engineering opportunities to help assist in cost control and budget adherence for the project.
- Executes quantity take-off (volumetric, linear, area) from both digital and printed plans.
- Obtains pricing from subcontractors/vendors.
- Creates rough project schedules to accurately determine costs and resources based on bid guidelines.
- Prepares cost analysis by capturing material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items.
- Tracks project documentation and maintains accurate and complete files.
- Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
- Drafts the written proposal documents with bid qualifications, clarifications and exclusions.
- Attends departmental meetings, business development activities, and presentations as required.
- Maintain subcontractor relations and stay up to date on industry developments applicable to estimating.
- All essential roles and responsibilities are performed from the main office with occasional travel for work.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- A minimum of five (5) years of construction or interiors estimating experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Bachelor`s degree.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Interpersonal; decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Analytical skills - consider and analyze different manufacturing and construction methods to identify the most cost- effective solution.
- Time management skills.
