Job Summary

Press Assistant plays a vital role, assisting in the operation and maintenance of Flexographic printing presses. Requires a keen eye for detail, technical aptitude, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Press Assistant will work closely with Press Operators to set up and operate printing presses, maintain equipment, and monitor print quality throughout the production process to ensure the production of high-quality printing output while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in the setup and operations of flexographic printing presses.
  • Feed, monitor print quality and retrieve printed materials and make adjustments as necessary to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Compare ink color kits and ensure ink color in kits matches press sample.
  • Set up ink supply, monitor ink consumption and recovery system, and ensure proper function.
  • Test ink viscosity by performing flow rate test, work with press operator and adjust as required.
  • Print required documents. Review work order, layout, item specification, kodak & color book to ensure correct documentation is available.
  • Set up flexographic CI press running complex multicolor and “process printing” jobs using required plate cylinders and anilox on appropriate decks. Make required adjustments to achieve proper registration, web tension and centering on rolls.
  • Communicates discrepancies of production documentations (WI, SOP, Layout, etc.) to Supervisor
  • Obtain raw materials, check for material defects, ensure material type and description match with the work order.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of printing equipment. Remove ink supply and recovery components. Clean all components Assist with the setup of plate rolls, anilox rolls, calendar rolls etc. Load and unload paper
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical issues and perform minor repairs.
  • Comply with safety regulations and company policies. Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, report any issues promptly to optimize print quality and efficiency.
  • Record production data and maintain accurate records of job orders.
  • Report defective equipment or unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Other duties assigned by management.

  • Basic Math Skills (Inch to metric conversion)
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, on-call when necessary.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing, printing distribution and/or packaging is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • On-the-job training will be provided.

Physical Requirements

  • Typical environment of manufacturing and production facilities: Exposure includes but is not limited to continuous noise, scent of materials, bright workstations, machinery with moving parts.
  • Intermittently on foot for approx. 8-12 hours daily on concrete floors.
  • Period lifting of pallets weight and material weighing up to 70lbs.
  • Squatting, crouching, turning, twisting, stretching, climbing steps, grabbing, pulling, pushing, and bending.
  • Visual and hearing acuity within normal limits.
  • Hearing & color vision acuity for machine set-up
  • Ishihara machine eye exam for perfect color.
