Aircraft Mechanic III: Sheet Metal

Employees shall possess adequate knowledge and experience in the aircraft maintenance field to be able to provide technical guidance to workers with lesser expertise and in lower grades. Contractor maintain repair and modify aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintain and repair T-38 aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation. Contractor shall apply professional, technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of T-38 aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of T-38 aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. Contractor shall possess a detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. The Contractor shall possess the knowledge and experience to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike and must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. Contractor shall make entries in aircraft logs and records and be responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.

These duties require moderate to strenuous effort. Contractor employees filling this skillset shall be able to climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and stand for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces. The Contractor shall be required to lift parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted and 25 pounds with assistance. The Contractor shall be able to identify, inspect, and properly store aircraft parts that have been removed to FOM. Entry into non-permit-required confined spaces may be required for this skillset on this task order.
