This position is responsible for preparing the patient for the doctor's examination assisting the doctor in the exam lane, and providing a concierge level of service of consultation for the patient.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the doctor, schedule surgical procedures and educates the patient on surgical instructions, medication instructions, and counsels the patient on different options for cataract surgery
Under the general supervision of the doctor, routes patients through the practice
Under the general supervision of the doctor, obtains chief complaint
Under the direct supervision of the doctor, obtains medical histories for self and family
Under the general supervision of the doctor, reviews and records medication
Under the direct supervision of the doctor, obtains and records Visual Acuities, refraction, cover test, and Visual Fields.
Under the direct supervision of the doctor, identifies and uses exam room equipment
Under the general supervision of the doctor, identifies basic anatomy of the eye for proper recording
Under the general supervision of the doctor, performs pinhole acuity and Amsler Grid as determined by standards of care
Under the direct supervision of the doctor, administer and records Extra Ocular Movement (EOM's), Near Point Convergence (NPC), Accommodation, and Pupil Testing
Under the general supervision of the doctor, utilizes lensometry to read single vision lenses, bifocal lenses, trifocal lenses, and progressive lens
Under the general supervision of the doctor, assists the doctor by performing applanation tonometry
Under the general supervision of the doctor, determines and administers dilating drops
Under the direct supervision of the doctor, scribes for doctor
Under the general supervision of the doctor, documents assessments and plan of the patient's care
Work Experience:
Related ophthalmic care experience within a similar office environment
Education:
High School Diploma/GED (Required)
Job Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Demonstrated success in a medical environment addressing a broad spectrum of customer requirements and preferences
Demonstrated ability to establish positive patient rapport and build relationships to establish repeat patient-trends
Strong communication skills (oral and written)
Must possess the ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a fast packed, entrepreneurial environment
Ability to be proactive and utilize problem-solving skills to identify and resolve patient issues or concerns
Proficiency in utilization of automated equipment and systems standard to the ophthalmic industry
The position requires the ability to communicate, exchange information, and work in a team-oriented environment
