Position Title: Behavioral Health Clinician - LCSW Team Lead


Department: Behavioral Health


Reports To: Clinic Manager - Behavioral Health Services and Programs


Location: This position sits at Roots Main Site (9925 International Blvd, Oakland CA) but will sometimes have to support other Roots locations.


Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm. This position is primarily onsite, with a possible remote day.


Salary Range: $100,000 - $118,000


Job Summary: The Behavioral Health Clinician - LCSW Team Lead represents Roots Community Health Center, working as part of a team in a highly visible setting. The LCSW Team Lead is responsible for providing clinical leadership and supervision to a team of behavioral health clinicians and other mental health professionals. This role involves overseeing the delivery of mental health services, ensuring compliance with regulations and quality standards, and supporting the professional development of team members.


Key Responsibilities:


Clinical Supervision:

  • Provide clinical supervision, guidance, and consultation to BSW, ASW, student interns, and other mental health professionals, including regular individual and group supervision sessions.
  • Assist in creating a robust clinical internship, which includes creating a training program, materials, and curriculum for behavioral health interns and associate clinicians with support of the Lead Clinical Supervisor.
  • Monitor and assess the quality of clinical services and provided by team members.
  • Review and approve treatment plans and interventions.


Team Leadership:

  • Lead, motivate, and support the team in achieving program goals and objectives.
  • Assists with interviewing and onboarding of new BH clinicians. Assists in training new clinicians on clinical standards, documentation requirements, and department policies and procedures.
  • Lead in crisis response and support to patients and staff. Be available by phone for after hour emergencies.
  • Supervise onsite clinical staff and foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Assist in coordination and overseeing the allocation and distribution of clients among team members.
  • Ensure that clients are managed effectively, including assessments, treatment planning, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Intervene and provide guidance on complex cases.
  • Attend meetings with external partners and organizations in regards to clinical program needs.
  • Lead internal meetings as assigned by the Clinical Manager.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of de-escalation techniques and crisis communication and management.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure that all clinical services are provided in compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as agency policies and procedures.
  • Lead and participate in CQRT (Clinical Quality Review Team) for medi-cal charts.
  • Address any compliance issues or concerns promptly.


Professional Development:

  • Support the ongoing professional development of team members through training, mentorship, and skill-building opportunities.
  • Stay updated on best practices in the field of clinical social work and share knowledge with the team.


Documentation and Reporting:

  • Review and approve clinical documentation, progress notes, and treatment plans.
  • Prepare and submit reports to management and regulatory bodies as required.


Client Interaction:

  • Provide direct, brief clinical services to walk-in clients, as needed, including assessments, therapy, crisis intervention, and/or outreach support.
  • Create, implement, and co-lead behavioral health support groups or psychoeducational groups.
  • Serve as a role model for the team in client interactions and ethical practice.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
  • Must hold current LCSW license in the state of California and have been licensed for at least 3 years.
  • Several years of clinical experience in the field of behavioral health.
  • Supervision or leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic modalities and treatment approaches.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and ethical standards.
  • Experience with evidence-based practices, including trauma-informed care framework.
  • Knowledge and experience working with communities of color that are experiencing co-occurring issues, such as multiple chronic health conditions, mental/behavioral health and substance addiction.
  • Experience and knowledge about working with the entire spectrum of mild-moderate and moderate-severe behavioral conditions, as well as working with formerly incarcerated and unsheltered individuals.
  • Ability to complete social histories, risk assessments, mental health status exams, and plans of care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and health navigators.
  • Ability to form a therapeutic alliance with members served and families.
  • Sufficient medical knowledge to assess the needs of members served.
  • Ability to advocate for the members served in other health delivery systems.
  • Active listener with strong data entry skills.
