Job Title: AutoCAD Technician

Department: Engineering Department

Reports To: District Engineer

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the District Engineer and/or the General Manager, an AutoCAD Technician will provide administrative and technical support duties as it relates to the various engineering functions of the JCSUD Engineering Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Usage of GIS software and other software programs for GIS/engineering technical work.
  • Usage of the computer hydraulic modeling software InfoWater by Innovyze.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports and memoranda.
  • Assists in drawing of engineering plans with AutoCAD.
  • Assists in the creation of engineering specifications.
  • Perform site visit to confirm project data and existing infrastructure.
  • Maintains records and files of all completed engineering work.

Education and Experience

Associate degree from an accredited institution with course work in engineering technology, Geography/GIS or environmental resources. One (1) year of experience performing technical engineering or GIS mapping / analysis work. Experience with civil engineering design software programs and applications.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic engineering design principles and requirements.
  • Knowledge of ArcMap and InfoWater is preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge Microsoft Office Suite products and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to understand Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations regarding water infrastructure.
  • Pays close attention to detail.
  • Must be flexible to changes in work assignments on short notice and/or daily, as changes occur in project workload.
  • Exhibits strong organizational skills.
  • Ability understand and interpret engineering terminology.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrates willingness to learn
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work interdependently within a team environment

Work Environment

An AutoCAD technician spends the majority of his or her working hours in an office setting, with some time spent in the field.

Salary

$45,000-$55,000 Based on Experience
