The Facilities Maintenance Technician manages all general building maintenance and repairs, performing a variety of tasks ranging from routine unskilled to highly skilled in the mechanical trades including but not limited to electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry. This role oversees wide range of responsibilities which may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction and design of facility components. Additionally, the Facilities Technician must conduct the determination of requirements for specific task or projects, such as planning, acquiring materials, as well as identifying building maintenance and repair issues.


Ensuring the building’s operations are efficient and secure, this role requires being dynamic, energetic, collaborative, and economical, maintaining a high attention to detail, and an ability to resolve issues quickly with an adherence to safety.

What You Will Do:

  • Oversee the general maintenance and upkeep of the Oakland Goodwill office which may include duties such as plumbing, carpentry, remodeling, painting, installation, repair and a variety of other craft or building trades.
  • Ensure all work functions adhere to applicable laws and regulations, as well as established company policies and procedures.
  • Operate a variety of power tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair and construction of the Goodwill office.
  • Supervise third party vendors that support the Oakland Goodwill office.
  • Paint a variety of interior and exterior surfaces by using spray equipment and manual tools.
  • Install or repair hinges, locks, and related hardware; re-keys and duplicates, changes and master key systems including electronic locks.
  • Install, repair and maintains lavatories, sinks, wash basins, toilets, urinals, grease traps, drains, gas and electric heaters, water heaters, gas burning appliances, water filters, water tanks and pumps, boilers, and HVAC unit, and other plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Perform framing, rough, and finish carpentry.
  • Assist in planning and execution of construction and modifications to be performed including prepare sketches, estimate cost of materials and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications and manuals.
  • Conduct a variety of other tasks such as the repair of pumps, small motors, and other mechanical apparatus.
  • Lead office moves such as loading, hauling and unloading materials and supplies.
  • Prepares oral and written reports of work performed such as work orders, timesheets, requisitions, accident reports, vehicle inspection reports, etc.
  • Assist with various company floor setups.
  • Promotes and conduct good housekeeping practices.
  • Fulfill other duties as requested by management.

What You Bring to the Role:

  • 2-4 years of general facilities maintenance experience including installation, repair, painting and plumbing
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance laws and regulations as it relates to building maintenance
  • Highly familiar with operating power tools and equipment
  • Working knowledge of an HVAC system
  • A self-starter with a strong attention to detail
  • Highly collaborative with an ability to who can work well with staff at all levels and external vendors
  • Willingness to work with exposure to unpleasant and potentially hazardous substances
  • Demonstrated capacity to problem solve, multi-task and prioritize a wide range of projects and workload
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven experience in reading and interpreting drawings, sketches, O.E.M. instructions and specifications
