Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The special education teachers at It’s a Sensory World! partner with the director of education, and their team, to develop and execute individual learning plans for the students in their classroom. At ISW Academy lead teachers are responsible for:
collaborating with the administrative team to assess, evaluate and observe students and develop individualized education plans.
offering direction in areas like course planning, professional development, standardized testing improvement
individualized lesson planning
parent communication and quarterly conferences
classroom management
performing duties assigned by the director of education
communicating effectively, and in a timely manner, with parents/guardians of students to address complaints, issues or concerns.
monitoring data and developing action plans
Monitoring and supervising assistants, interns or volunteers.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be confident, self-aware, creative, proactive, secure, highly organized and committed to the vision, mission and values of It’s a Sensory World! In addition, the following qualifications will generally define the candidate:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (special education/education, communication sciences and disorders, child development, etc.)
Broad knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and methodology of special education and sensory integration, communication disorders, social-emotional learning and child development
Ability to be creative in developing alternatives to meet the individual needs of a child
Excellent communication skills and strong analytical and professional/report writing capabilities
Strong attention to detail and the ability to exercise good judgement
Ability to work independently, but also collaboratively and is able to thrive on a team
Ability to execute professional meetings, calls, and emails with professionalism, courtesy and accuracy
Personal qualities include maturity, humility, sense of humor, optimistic, driven, coachable, and positive
Ability to effectively prioritize time to several tasks and is able to ensure completion
Ability to delegate responsibilities to sensory motor coaches, assistants, interns and volunteers
Have experience working with children with special needs and learning differences
Have a strong desire to work with children with special needs of all ability levels
Must pass a criminal background check

The person in this position works with parents, ISW staff, partners, administrators and service providers (therapists) on both routine and diverse problems. This individual must possess a variety of personal and interpersonal skills. This position and the culture of the organization requires a positive attitude, good judgement, and discretion.
