Company Overview:


Queen City Railroad Construction, Inc operates as a railroad construction contractor for building and repairing railroad tracks primarily in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern regions of the United States.

 

General Overview


A skilled mechanic will assemble, maintain, and repair vehicles and heavy equipment to support railroad construction projects. The mechanic will be responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of vehicles, equipment, and mechanical systems. The mechanic must have manual dexterity and great attention to detail. They must be able to work with various vehicles, railroad equipment, and tools as well as follow all safety precautions.

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This role does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supports railroad construction projects by accurately preventing, diagnosing, and repairing vehicles, heavy, light duty and construction equipment
  • Provide routine inspections of vehicles and construction equipment
  • Perform basic maintenance filters, fluids, lights, tires, cylinders, etc.
  • Communicate equipment needs for ordering parts and service scheduling
  • Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner
  • Keep an accurate log of all work performed
  • Maintain and clean shop equipment and tools to ensure they are kept in a safe and usable condition at all times
  • Ensure working conditions are safe and that proper PPE is being used as job duties required
  • Adhere to company work safety policies
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Travel up to 3 weeks at a time is necessary

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Proven experience as a mechanic
  • Prior railroad experience a plus
  • Good working knowledge of all machine systems, including diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, mechanical and fluid power transmission systems and processes typically used to repair and maintain
  • Aptitude in using various hand tools and precision measurement tools
  • Ability to follow established procedures and practices, read instruction, manuals including hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical drawings
  • Very good communication skills
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Very good physical strength and stamina
  • Ability to carry out repairs in various climate conditions
  • Must pass background check and drug test


Specialized/Technical Knowledge/Education/Experience: 

  • Prefer previous construction experience and/or mechanical aptitude
  • Safety conscious with high regard for other employees working with or near equipment
  • Must be a team player and willing to learn all phases of the position.

 

 

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions: 

  • Able to perform duties outside in multiple environments including but not limited to heat and humidity, rain, snow, and ice
  • Frequent walking on uneven surfaces
  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Lift/carry or push/pull equipment and other objects weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and kneel for extended periods of time
