Job Description

Job Title: Activities and Wellness Supervisor

Reports To: Resident Life Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Activities


Summary: Plans, develops, organizes, implements and evaluates the activity programs of the facility by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.*

  1. Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the activity and wellness programs of the facility.

  1. Assists in the development, administering, and coordinating of department policies and procedures.

  1. Participates in community planning related to the interests of the community and the services needs of the resident and family.

  1. Performs administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports and submitting such to the Administrator as required.

  1. Coordinates activities with other departments as necessary.

  1. Oversees the development of posting monthly activity and wellness calendars which are visible to all residents, families and staff.

  1. Creates and distributes newsletters.

  1. Updates activities and events on website.

  1. Maintains activity attendance records with Activity and Wellness Assistant(s).

  1. Arranges transportation for outings when necessary.

  1. Schedules, facilitates and announces departmental meeting times, dates and places.

  1. Assists in recruitment, interviewing, and selection of personnel for the department.

  1. Schedules department work hours, personnel and work assignments.

  1. Counsels/disciplines activity personnel as needed.

  1. Terminates employment of personnel when necessary, documenting and coordinating such actions with Department Director.

  1. Conducts departmental performance evaluations in accordance with the community policies and procedures.

  1. Attends departmental, in-services and staff meetings as directed or called.

  1. Assists with resident wellness and activities as needed.

  1. Oversees the functioning of Senior Fit Programs.

  1. Conducts and maintains minutes of monthly resident council meetings.

  1. Is responsible for ensuring the community wellness center and bus is kept in clean and working condition, and that mechanical concerns are communicated to the EVS Director.

  1. Responsible for planning and overseeing seasonal decorations throughout the building.

  1. Adheres to monthly budgetary guidelines.
  2. Supports and maintains minutes of all QAPI and Resident Town meetings.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Wellness degree, or Activities Director Certificate preferred and two to four years related experience or completion of training.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Minimum driver age is 25.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to understand and maintain department budget.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Windows; Desktop Publishing; Internet Explorer and AL Insight.

Special Skills:

Must be able to read, write, speak in an understandable manner, and understand the English language.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

Team player with a positive attitude demonstrates the ability work with all co-workers.

Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents/personnel.

Enjoys working with and around older adults.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises employees in the Activity and Wellness Departments, which includes involvement with any wellness or activities consulting service hired to perform duties/services at the community. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. They may be required to assist residents with Activities of Daily Living that arise during the course of off-site activities.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee may be required to push a wheel chair over various terrains.
