Position Summary

The Director of Supply Chain & Procurement takes a leadership role in executing effective and efficient procurement, inventory, and supply chain services while also ensuring values and competencies in maintaining transparency, integrity and compliance with established rules and regulations.

This is a new role that will be tasked with elevating the Murray’s Cheese experience through importing, inventory control, forecasting, day-to-day supplier management and all supply chain functions. This key leadership position will be strategic and hands-on to champion and supervise the creation and evolution of efficient processes that lead to a better customer experience, an engaged team, and upholding operating standards. This person will work with Senior Leadership to set the vision of Supply Chain & Procurement strategy and then build systems, buy-in, team & KPI structure to deliver that strategy while continuously measuring, consulting and fine-tuning processes.

The Director of Supply Chain & Procurement will supervise the Supply Chain & Procurement team while directly interfacing with the Senior Leadership team and partnering directly with Department heads and their teams. This position requires a passion for operational excellence, a drive for results, and the ability to hold teams accountable. What You Do

  • Fully own importing, forecasting, inventory management and supply chain for Murray’s NYC businesses.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Merchandising, establish and manage supplier, vendor, 3rd Party Drop Ship partners, & 3rd Party Fulfillment partners performance standards/KPIs, including report cards and annual supplier/vendor/partner reviews. Collaborate with department heads to determine report cadence and ensure all relevant performance areas are measured & proactively managed.
  • Provide high-level support & feedback to Director of Merchandising by building cadence of regular supplier performance feedback and maintaining strong day-to-day working relationships with key vendors/suppliers.
  • Review[GU1] [CC2] and develop supply chain & procurement standards, processes, and procedures to ensure best practices while also continuously measuring, consulting, and fine-tuning the process.
  • Top team KPIs: Sales, Shrink, On Time In Full (OTIF), Inventory as % of sales, OOS%
  • Top individual KPIs: Inventory Accuracy 97% or better, Shrink 95% or better, PO/Invoice Accuracy 95% or better
  • Actively work with team members to identify future leaders and develop their skills while building operational bench depth. You know their strengths & areas for improvement and how to use their skills to benefit the team and company while growing their career with Murray’s.
  • Own the monthly inventory process for Murray’s NYC operations and the weekly review of inventory turns/risks. Collaborate with the Director of Merchandising to act as needed (I.e., changes to future orders, pricing, or markdowns).
  • Collaborate with all sales channels on optimized inventory levels and unique market opportunities.
  • Develop a centralized supplies procurement program that adds value and efficiency to Murray’s in partnership with the Department heads and their teams.
  • Own and oversee freight optimization, import freight (air vs. sea), and inventory levels while managing fill-rate KPIs to support sales and GP growth targets in collaboration with Director of Merchandising.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Merchandising to drive volume discounts across key items at specific times of the year.
  • Own the development and execution of sourcing strategies, including procurement technologies and processes, targets, timelines, and resource plans.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to ensure that all vendors are compliant with Murray’s Cheese’s food safety (HACCP & FSVP) plans.
  • Collaborate with Finance to determine best options for exchange rates and accounts payable for imported products; monitor currency exchange fluctuations.
  • Own and manage relationships with Customs Broker & bonded warehouses; manage offsite stock/storage levels.
  • Build market intelligence capabilities within the Supply Chain & Procurement team regarding key markets, strategic suppliers, and solutions to support strategy development.
  • Monitor timely purchase order processing, develop bids and proposals, and invoice discrepancy reconciliation.
  • Develop and manage initiative timelines, deliverables, and best practices to keep projects on track while monitoring, documenting, and assigning responsibilities to key members.
  • Develop a broad understanding of our business, opportunities, shortfalls, and needs within other departments.

What We Need From You

  • 5+ years in a mix of supply chain and procurement roles with an emphasis on daily business operations.
  • Strong financial skills with 3+ years of P&L management within a professional environment.
  • Effective communication (listening, verbal, and written) skills and ability to work well with all levels of management, team members, suppliers, and customers.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management, including procurement, scheduling, freight, inventory control, supplier performance (report cards & reviews), and domestic/international logistics & importing. Food & Beverage industry experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, including inventory planning tools, inventory level optimization, fill rates, and developing strategic sourcing solutions.
  • Knowledge of LEAN best practices and continuous improvement, along with Project Management experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal & state regulations (FDA, USDA, FSIS, Customs, NY Dept. of Ag, Harp-C, FSVP).
  • Strong computer & analytical skills. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and experience with NetSuite are preferred.
  • Ability to articulate a sharp vision of 'where we are going/what is next' to build understanding and support from those teams around you.
  • Monitor and report progress and variance against plan, and take corrective action where needed.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, while paying close attention to detail and accuracy.
  • College degree or equivalent education and/or training.
