TITLE

Senior Sequencing Analyst

WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE

The Senior Sequencing Analyst will join our Quality Control team to support Addgene's sequence-based quality control efforts. In this role, you will participate in processes related to next-generation sequencing data handling, analyze sequencing results, and communicate findings to depositing scientists. Additionally, you will support QC initiatives to streamline and automate our processes while maintaining our high quality standards.

LOCATION & POLICY ON REMOTE WORK

This position has the flexibility to be hybrid, requiring one day a week onsite at our Watertown, Massachusetts Headquarters (with the option to come in more!). Our beautiful office space has free, ample parking with a complimentary shuttle from Harvard Square and is on multiple bus lines, with the cost of public transit covered by Addgene (if onsite at least 4 days/week).

You must be a resident in one of the following states to work hybrid: MA, VT, ME, RI.

In joining our team as an "Addgenie", you will work with multidisciplinary internal teams to help fulfill this mission, including scientists, software engineers and product developers, renowned customer support teams, marketing gurus, and business development professionals. Together, Addgenies create and enhance opportunities for research scientists to deposit their materials, find products and resources easily on our website, and receive unparalleled support in receiving and expertly using our materials in their own experiments.

The Role:

As a Sequencing Analyst, your responsibilities will primarily relate to the downstream processing and analysis of sequencing data. Under the direction of the Sr. Quality Control Manager, you will analyze next-generation sequencing results, correspond with depositing scientists, manage associate and technical sequencing analysts, and assist the quality control team with additional projects that relate to expanding our in-house QC tools, bioinformatics, and automation of our processes.

To Succeed in this Role, You Will:

  • Execute NGS-related bioinformatic processes including post-run data processing, uploading of sequencing results, and institute automation pipelines.
  • Perform, document, and report quality control analyses of plasmid and viral vector samples following existing standard procedures.
  • Correspond with depositing laboratories to resolve QC issues.
  • Train and manage associate and technical sequencing analysts.
  • Collaborate with lab-based and data teams on projects and processes related to expanding our in-house QC tools, including long read sequencing.
  • Contribute to team quality control goals, best practices, and special projects.

Skills and Competencies
  • PhD in Biology or other life science or MS with 2+ years related experience
  • Experience in molecular biology including cloning, primer design, and sequence analysis (Sanger, Next Generation Sequencing and/or long read nanopore sequencing)
    • Wet lab experience in biology or NGS preparation is a plus
    • Experience with amplicon sequencing and analysis is a plus
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing analysis using bioinformatic software preferred
  • Familiarity with command line tools and a programming or scripting language, preferably python
    • Knowledge of Nextflow, cloud computing and/or HPC experience is a plus
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English; strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work closely with scientists required
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring or managing individuals
  • Familiarity with sequence analysis software, BLAST/NCBI tools, and Google/Microsoft productivity software
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with reading scientific research articles
