Job description

Data Scientist/Analyst - Department of State
The Position:
We are seeking driven, thoughtful candidates with experience in impact/performance assessments and data visualization to support impactful initiatives for our Federal clients at the U.S. Department of State (DOS).
As a Data Scientist/Analyst with Censeo, you will support economic and performance analysis and reporting for a key Department of State program. You will work closely with DOS teams to establish performance metrics, collect performance data, conduct analysis, and develop dashboard reporting for a flagship Department program. 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Define baseline performance indicators and develop methodologies for ongoing data collection across exchange program initiatives
  • Measure the longitudinal impact of past program participants on U.S. economic and business ecosystems
  • Provide federal, state, and local-level fiscal impact estimates, including revenue generation and tax implications
  • Implement systems for continuous tracking and timely reporting of key performance metrics
  • Build an interactive, public-facing dashboard that displays real-time performance data, including state, regional, and national trends
  • Develop a flagship annual economic impact report with key findings
  • Provide monthly and annual summaries for internal and external use
  • Deliver special reports as needed (e.g., country-specific, sector-specific deep dives, impact on rural vs. urban economies)
  • Compare exchange program impacts to other global exchange models
  • Evaluate public-private partnerships and contributions from private sector employers
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop realistic, innovative solutions to complex challenges
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly through written reports and presentations
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, proactively identifying and mitigating delivery risks

  • BA/BS required; Master’s or PhD strongly preferred in Economics, Applied Economics, Public Policy, or a closely related field
  • 5-10+ years of experience conducting economic economic analysis, policy evaluation, and performance measurement for federal agencies or other large organizations
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, using tools such as advanced Excel, R, Python, STATA, or SAS to perform economic analysis and data modeling
  • Experience tracking metrics by providing continuous monitoring and analysis of performance and economic data
  • Proven experience delivering public‑facing analytical products to produce clear summary reporting for nontechnical audiences using analytics platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent
  • Ability to document methodologies, assumptions, and limitations and communicate clearly to stakeholders
  • Familiarity with federal reporting requirements, performance measurement frameworks, and performance evaluation best practices
  • Experience supporting or working directly with the U.S. Department of State or other international organization (preferred)
  • Experience in consulting, professional services, or federal government contracting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to synthesize complex information
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

The Fine Print:
  • The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $160,000 depending on experience
  • Expected travel 0-10%; may increase based on business needs 
  • This is an exempt, full-time position
  • This role is subject to a hybrid work schedule
  • Essential Physical Functions
    • Sitting: Particularly for sustained periods of time
    • Light Carrying: Physically transporting items weighing less than 15 pounds from one location to another
