The Research Scientist will be responsible for conducting routine and non-routine product development projects related to Group14's advanced energy storage materials with good, safe lab practices. For such projects, they will design and execute studies towards characterization, synthesis, and optimization of energy storage materials. This role is responsible for verbal and written communications including reports and presentations. Must be comfortable working in a highly collaborative and fast-paced work environment.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

-Execute R&D protocols related to synthesis and physicochemical characterization for developmental materials.

-Analyze, interpret, record, and organize data to write technical reports and present data with oversight from manager.

-Design and development of new material applications, methods, and/or operate new laboratory equipment.

-Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to troubleshoot processes and materials.

-Occasionally act as principal investigator in their own experiments with oversight from senior staff.

-Contribute towards good laboratory best practices, safety, and efficient laboratory data management.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

-0-2 years of relevant experience working in a laboratory, production floor, or research environment.

-BA/BS in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related field from accredited institution from accredited institution.

-Ability to follow standard operating procedures.

-Demonstrated ability to perform hands-on work.

-Strong time management skills.

-Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and GSuite (Drive, Meet, Sheets).

OTHER QUALITIES WE'D LOVE FOR YOU TO HAVE:

-Background and laboratory experience in any of the following: chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related field.

-Previous job experience in a scientific field.

-Experience with high temperature materials synthesis (e.g. using tube furnaces).

-Experience with, or knowledge of, material characterization techniques (e.g. BET, TGA, pycnometer density, or particle size analysis).

-Experience troubleshooting when mechanical or electrical issues arise on equipment.

-Experience recording information in laboratory notebooks and databases.

-Interest or experience investigating chemical processes and physicochemical phenomena (e.g. chemical vapor deposition).

-Experience working with gas control systems and manifolds.

-Desire to work in start-up, dynamic environment.

The annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000. All positions come with a company bonus and stock options. The actual base pay offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, the applicant's qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the position is located.
